Yep, I saw it Leon. It was a pretty intense serious action drama. I liked it but I did'nt think it was as good as Training Day. I can't understand why it bombed the way it did though..I don't think people in the U.S. are yet ready to see serious "R" rated movies so hollywood will continue to make more family oriented and stupid comedy flicks. Can you believe that Will Farrell's comedy(I dont even remember the name of it) came in second place at the box office ahead of The Life Of David Gale, Dark Blue and Gods and Generals? Kurt Russell was great and the movie was pretty good as well. It was my type of film and very refreshing to see at least every now and then nowadays..I hope that Tears of The Sun does well. Dark Blue only opened to just over 2000 theatres also and most were only predicting around 6-7 million though..

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the info.I'm glad you enjoyed the movie. It just shows you where most people's minds are at if they would rather watch a dumb ass comedy like instead of watching something with substance like the other movies you mentioned:confused: I'm sure both Cradle To The Crave and Tears Of The Sun will do pretty well when they come out.

Peace,

Leon

I was surprised too... This had been hyped alot, and several critics had said this was Russell's best performance of his career. I guess people are tired of these R Rated cop flicks. They probably see the previews, and immediately assume it's going to be like all the rest. Even "Life of David Gale" bombed, even though it managed $7 million. How in the hell did "Old School" end up grossing $17 million? Audiences are erratic with what they go see from week to week.

Will Ferrell's "Old School" made $17 mil. Thats the type of movie that most people in the U.S. want to see right now. The thing is: more and more studios will pick up on this and continue to make these ridiculous movies because they are cheap and dont require much talent and make a killing at the box office..The good serious movies(especially if they have any violence, profanity or sex in them) and portray whats going on in the real world rarely work nowadays..Its sad and pathetic-but hey, on the other hand its saving me money. Russell did put in a very good performance and so did Spacey as David Gale but hey they had to compete with Will Ferrell and thats a loss cause. I wanna know who goes to the movies and passes Dark Blue, The Life Of Davie Gale, and Gods and Generals to go and see a piece of crap like Old School. Oh well! It looks like the better stuff is coming out on cable and on tv nowadays. More power to the Sopranoes and Vic Mackey type programs(ala The Shield and 24). Actually this last year on The Sopranoes toned down on the violence and profanity a lot from its previous years..I guess the studios are saying that we are getting enough violence and reality in real life and need a break to stupid comedies and family oriented material.

I saw "Dark Blue" and it was slightly disappointing. Kurt Russell's performance was good but some of the dialogue fell flat, and the story wasn't quite as gritty as it should have been. Russell was supposed to be this hard ass cop, but we never really see him do much of anything immoral... unless you count drinking: morning, noon and night, beating an Asian guy up, and spraying Master P with pepper spray. The last half hour was the best because that's when the action kicks in. The scenes where Russell's driving down the street while looters are attacking him was crazy. His end speech was good but I didn't believe he could have changed his morals that fast. Overall, worth seeing once.

I was a little dissapointed too that it was not all that I expected but all in all it was pretty good.
I would have changed my moral that fast too if I had been set up the way he was. He did exactly what I would have done and who knows if he really changed his morals-he just got his revenge on his boss for what he did..
