Interview with director Andrew Davis

Andrew Davis was very gentleman-like in his answers, but yeah, you could read between the lines and sense that he did NOT enjoy working with him on Under Siege.

This is not the first instance where people who have worked with him have mentioned how he changed a lot during those first years when he became a star, and that's not to say he didn't have an ego even when he did start making movies, but many have said how difficult it was to work with him during that time.

I do have to wonder, how big of a part his huge ego played on his career's downfall. I mean, after all Exit Wounds was by no means a Box Office dissapointment, in fact it made respectable business with a modest budget. But after that, with the exception of Half Past Dead it was DTV all the way.

So would his short "comeback" have been more lucrative back in 2001, had he been more easy to work with and if he would have had the passion and discipline needed for making movies?

I mean, pretty much after that he gained all the weight, chose the easier and bigger paycheck roles, that required less from him, less time on set, more stunt doubles, no ADR, no promoting, just shoot for a couple of weeks and go home.

After all Hollywood is not a big place, and everybody sort of knows everybody and these stories travel. I'm sure Seagal missed out on a lot of great project just because of his infamous reputation.
I mean if a big time director has to choose between working with A) Seagal, who has a questionable reputation, or B) a star of the same caliber, but who's known to be a hard worker and a nice guy, I'm sure the director will go with B.

Well, it's too late now, it is what it is now.
