Mastering an aikido suit

Hi,I'm new here.

And I've also recently taken up aikido again.I've started again at a beginners class near where I live, but I'm having problems mastering how to tie the belt properly.I'm trying my hardest, but I just don't seem to be able to get it to work.I was wondering if any member here could provide me with some step-by-step instructions on how to tie the belt properly.I'd also like to know how those little white strings by the side of the suit come into it.

Thanks,
Sascha

Hi Sascha,

start with the belt folded in half so the two ends meet.

take the centre of the belt, and place at your middle of stomach/waist.

Take the ends around each side of body so they cross at the back, keep going until you have about 40cm left of each end in front of you.

take both ends in hands, right end goes over left end, tucks underneath the belt around the front of your waist and out over the top( it is now on the left in front),pull tight.

Now, left end over right end, tuck through the single loop and out, pull tight!! WAH LAH!!!

Another way is to roll the belt up into a coil with the tab on the top.
Place the belt end (tab up) on your left hip, and un-coil the belt around your body from left to right (across the front, around the back to the front again) be sure to hold the end in place on your hip until youv'e gone over it.
Hold the end you have left (should be in left hand) and untuck the end on your left hip (from under the belt you just wrapped around) and hold in right hand. Now tie the belt as above.
( right over left and under the belt on your waist, then left over right)

or, you could just follow Amos's link!;)

and welcome to the board:yin:
