Found an article about Above The Law 2 (a come back), it’s funny to read. It was in dutch so i quickly translated it to english.
‘Actor Steven Seagal would be interested in Above the Law 2. Whether the film will ever come up is doubtful, even if it could always be possible. Seagal is the same age as Liam Neeson and the latter keeps making action films and he did not even have background in martial arts.
Seagal is a one-trick pony, and his acting ability is virtually non-existent, but as a killing machine in action films he was irreplaceable. And he was already 36 when he started his acting debut in Above the Law (1988).
The problem is that Steven Seagal is actually a strange guy. (1) His body weight has really become an issue. The man is 1m93 but at the age of 60 is still heavy to 137kg. If you want to stage a credible fight scene, he has to lose weight properly and I think he will never do that. (2) The man is crazy. You can fill a full day with watching YouTube videos about crazy Steven Seagal moments.
Based on his claims that he would have met Bruce Lee (which is denied by tons of people) to his moments on the set where he suddenly did not want to kill anyone (for the sake of religious considerations) (see The Glimmer Man) and the makers had to change a lot to bring the film to a good end.
(3) Steven Seagal is certainly not #MeToo proof. The allegations of sexually undesirable behavior can no longer be kept and there is even an accusation of rape and unwanted sexual acts with a minor girl. Something like that also ensures that big studios will be careful to put the man on their payroll. (4) In essence, the man made only 5 "decent" action films and that was also his first 5 films between 1988 and 1992. Afterwards, the +50 films were actually not good.
The only way to give Seagal a Liam Neeson comeback is that he completely surrenders to the will of a strong director with a clear vision and a script that makes sense for a man of his age. He will also have to follow a heavy training and fitness program and a studio will have to give him the benefit of the doubt. Yet I think that Gladiator 2 will come faster than this Above the Law 2.’
