Emmett/Furla Films and Millennium Films Re-Up Ten Picture Agreement

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (INTERNET WIRE) -- 02/27/2003 -- Emmett/Furla Films Productions Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Family Room Entertainment Corporation (OTC BB: FMLY), is pleased to announce that Millennium Films has re-up-ed its ten picture non-exclusive international distribution arrangement with Millennium Films for an additional ten pictures.

Most recently, Emmett/Furla Films announced their tenth picture in this arrangement, “Belly of the Beast,” starring Steven Seagal. “Belly of the Beast” starts filming in Thailand next month. “Belly of the Beast” will be produced by Luminosity Media’s Steven Seagal, who is also starring in the Picture. Emmett/Furla Films’ Randall Emmett and George Furla will executive produce the picture. Phillip Goldfine will serve as co-executive producer. Millennium’s Danny Dimbort, Avi Lerner and Trevor Short will serve as executive producers on the picture.

Randall Emmett and George Furla said: “The ten pictures we have already produced under this agreement serve to illustrate the aggressive nature of our relationship. Avi Lerner and the team at Millennium Films have made Millennium Films an easy home for our aggressive slate of pictures. We also intend to continue to equity finance pictures as a part of our aggressive plan to get pictures into production. Emmett/Furla Films will continue to produce between seven to nine pictures per year.”

In addition, Emmett/Furla Films executive produced “Narc,” which Paramount Pictures released early this year. The picture was written and directed by Joe Carnahan (“Blood, Guts, Bullets and Octane”). “Narc” has also been nominated for three Independent Spirit Awards.

Emmett and Furla also served as executive producers on “Half Past Dead,” starring Steven Seagal, which was released through Screen Gems Pictures in November 2001.

Emmett/Furla Films is currently in post-production on “Blind Horizon,” starring Val Kilmer, Neve Campbell and Sam Shepard. Also in post-production is “Wonderland,” which stars Val Kilmer, Josh Lucas, Kate Bosworth, Lisa Kudrow and Christina Applegate. ”Wonderland,” which is being released by Lion Gate Films, was directed by James Cox from a script by Todd Samovitz, D. Loriston Scott, Captain Mauzer and James Cox. The picture was executive produced by Randall Emmett and George Furla and produced by Holly Weirsma.

Family Room Entertainment Corporation, with its subsidiaries, Emmett/Furla Films Productions, Emmett/Furla Films Distribution and EFF Independent, is a publicly held company trading on the NASDAQ Bulletin Board under the symbol “FMLY.” Family Room Entertainment develops, produces and performs production-related services for the entertainment industry. Family Room Entertainment’s aim is to create and produce high-quality motion pictures with high-profile talent that can be distributed to a worldwide audience. FMLY derives its income from producer fees, consulting and service fees, as well as its participation in the profits of the various pictures it produces.

The FMLY co-founders, Randall Emmett and George Furla, believe that they have the expertise and contacts within the entertainment industry, specifically in the competitive production and distribution arenas, to profitably acquire content, package product by adding value to the content with top-quality talent and produce motion pictures that are in the moderate- to higher-level budgets, which can be distributed to a mass worldwide audience. However, there is no assurance that any motion picture, which has not yet been released, will be released, that a change in the scheduled release dates of any such films will not occur or, if such motion picture is released, it will be successful.

So, that means filming hasn't begun yet? Well, hope he smoothes everything out with the Thai government, and all that hoopla about proper conduct, or whatever it was that we were talking about regarding the incident with the reporter before, so they can start filming...

Response from producer

A response from the producer, finally!

John Thompson, producer of the “Belly of the Beast” starring Steven Seagal, currently being filmed in Thailand had this to say about my comments in the February 20 column.

Dear Ken,

Although I am not fully qualified to judge the present state of censorship for foreign productions in Thailand, I would like to set the record straight by correcting some major inaccuracies written in your column that directly relates to me and the film, “Belly of the Beast”.

First, we did not “bypass the system” and have applied for approval to the censorship board, as required by law, through the Thai production entity, AD Productions.

Secondly, Menahem Golan is not the producer of the film as you stated. Golan has no attachment to the film or to my company, and has nothing to do with this film.

My company, Nu Image UK Ltd, is financing this picture 100 per cent and directly employing AD Productions as the local service and production entity.

I might also add that the local co-operation and professionalism have been performed at a very high level, and that alone should be the key factor to attract foreign productions to Thailand.

As for Steven Seagal, he is presently in Thailand to do what he is best known for – to make a motion picture. The Mafia, the CIA, lawsuits with former partners and other negative innuendo are what you, the press, are best known for.

Not once has the above been part of our working relationship, nor interfered with the progress and good relationships that we are developing in this country, except in your article, which we respect and must learn to live with in harmony.

Thank you for accepting my response.

John Thompson

Producer of “Belly of the Beast”.

Dear John,

On checking with the Thai Film Office they are yet unaware of any application for the Steven Seagal film at this point. Thank you for correcting me on the fact that you are the producer.

As to media forays into the private lives of public figures, I guess that will always be an issue for open discussion.

As Seagal is presently in Thailand and the news is rife through the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand of his activities and associations, perhaps a visit by yourself, along with him, for a media conference could disburse any “rumours” you think are unfounded.

However, you being the producer, should be in a better position to know. I wish you, your crew and AD Production success and smooth shooting.

Ken

- Now they call him the Bt100 million actor...

Yes, it’s Phanom “Ja” Yeeram, 27, who excels in “Ong Bak” that has smashed box-office records here by grossing Bt100 million in less than three weeks.

With the right distribution abroad, it could join the ranks of classics like “Baan Rajan” and “Suriyothai”. “Ja” could well become the successor to Jackie Chan if his people make the right moves on the way to Hollywood.

- Getting married is great. Breaking up sucks. But take heart, you divorcees out there. Look at Hollywood: when a celebrity says “I do”, your first reaction is, “I hope they’ve got a pre-nuptial agreement”.

In Hollywood, where “until death do us part” often means “until the publicity dies down” or “until I meet someone more famous”, star-studded vows usually come with an expiration date. Sure, there are famous couples who endure, but who wants to hear about them? We crave the dirty details of those quick unions that disintegrate in months, days, or even hours.

John Thompson certainly did not have to answer that "report"!
He did it to "set the record straight"! I, for one, am glad that he did. Perhaps the Thai Film Office isn't giving out any information to the press just because of the jerk reporters and the way that they have of changing the truth, to fit their sick little minds.
God bless,
Mama san
