Well, just watched it.....
First off, i found it more accessable than THE FOREIGNER (which was quite overplotted, you must admitt!) Yet the plot to OFAK, was simplistic, and in some ways reminisant of GAME OF DEATH (the threats, the payback, the old guy mob boss, the various fighters and their styles)..which i quite liked!
The bad CGI and it's 'added-on' audio, sunk it for me, though. Plus SEAGAL seemed bored (it's certainlly his least passionate performance) and certain scenes, happened for no reason (blame the director)

Having said that SEAGAL kicked ass!!!!!
I liked the fight scenes in this one (and not much doubling) with the sensei showing off the full range of his vast skills (it's been a while since he's used the sword..MARKED FOR DEATH, i think)

All in all, a good movie
What do you guys think.......

i agree lee the fx were shameful and spoiled the film and with a 20mil budget theres no need for such cheapness(remember the tf was a 20mil film yet was better looking than hpd)also the monkey fight scene was the only fight i hated and i will forward that from now on when i watch the film.also one bit that bothered me was when corey johnsons character died he was thinking about fishing or something then he was shot.....it confussed me a bit.....anyone else understand that bit.

Hi Lee.

You and I must think alike as I too thought that the central idea of the film where Seagal goes after the 10 Tongs one at a time, with each possesing a clue to the next Tongs' whereabouts, similar to the way Bruce Lee had to fight a more deadlier adversary as he ascended the levels of a Pagoda in "Game Of Deadth". Overall I can agree with you and although the film is by no means a classic it still somewhat worth while because of the numerous fight scenes. That sword fight in the funeral parlour was brilliant and a lot better than the one in "Exit Wounds"

One thing that pisses me off about the Michael Oblowitz directed films is that the dubbing is way off and sometimes like in "The Foreigner" it is not Seagal's voice at all in some scenes. I suppose this is the perils of a low budget production but you would think you could get little things like this right.

Speaking of low budgets I don't hold out much hope for Dolph Lundgren's new straight to video actioner. I forget what it is called but is supposed to be similar in style to "Predator", but do you know how much the budget is according to the ActionKings website; $6 million! Hope it doesnt rely too much on special effects at that rate.

Peace.

He was very impressive with the sword and his fighting...
And the plane scene was just too much...
Quite funny, and he was serious too, I bet...
Had nothing left to lose, after losing his wife...
He does look easily bored, that is very true...
I guess he's just too smart for his own good...:)

Having watched the fight scenes again last night, it became apparent to me that in the swordfight sequence they use a stunt double when he is being filmed from behind. His movements with the sword are smooth and co-ordinated (and fast) when you see 'him' from the back, but when he is filmed from the front he just seems to flail it about a bit. However, the opening part of the sequence where he chins the two monks with the short sticks of bamboo is awesome!

I think ofak had better fight see scenes then The Foreigner but thats about it. The Foreigner had a plot that was way to complex but i prefer that to OFAK's no plot at all.

AHA! Someone besides me caught on that..I questioned why they kept only filming his sleeve during the sword fight scene.
Yet could they have cut that scene to so many pieces without being obvious?

You know what - I might do a complete U-Turn on my opinion of this movie! I watched it again last night and I have to say I enjoyed it. Okay - some parts of it were quite poor, but I particularly liked one shot in particular - the part where one guy falls out of a window - as he lands, he knocks over a bin which is filled with smouldering rubbish - the slow-motion shot of the bin as it falls over and spills it's, er, load over the road is an example of exellent cinematography and I thought that even though it had nothing to do with anything, it was pretty stylish and artistic and a cool thing to include.

Yes, it is an entertaining film...:)
I really liked it myself, and even chuckled a bit...:D
Everyone needs to give it a fair shake, especially these hot handed reviewers so quick to damn it...
