Hello Benn:
Great question, I am almost a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and that is a question worth addressing, you were wise to ask it for the benefit of us here. Being a high belt i n my 3rd year (there is no final year, just final colored belt year )as Sensei proved you can go on forever and should. You can change types of training as he did Steven has 3 black belts:
Aikido, Judo and Kendo (sword)
When is enough enough?, well that depends on the offender and the seriousness of offense if its a child, no action can be taken against them If youre adult that does not mean you cant discipline them . Should they have a weapon, you must use judgement but you always have right to defense no matter what age.
I do know your rank low belts should never do this ,but you high belts brown plus to black beyond..if you break their trigger finger they cannot shoot you. (and nowadays my master says that applys to ANYONE teen or adult show them no mercy if they have a gun and mean to harm you age is not a factor.(providing their adult sized 15 on they should know better and are to be treated as adults.
Spiritual practice..Samadhi (meditation) is excellent should look into thats what he was doing in "Hard to Kill" with the smoking needles he was perfectly still a healing mind heals the body.
When to defend..only if only you seriously feel threatened , sometimes the best answer is to avoid a fight.. Bruce Lee himself said you know whats the hardest thing to learn in Martial Arts? People gave all kinds of answers none were right so he answers. " Nothing to do absolutely nothing (when you want to fight and you wank away youre a winner, youre alive.
class dismissed.. SAS GA
