Seagal and America

Does anyone know why Seagal never seems to film in America anymore? I know Van Damme never does anymore through fear of being sued (he actually was sued when he accidentally gouged a stuntman's eye during Cyborg) but Seagal hasn't since Exit Wounds either. The Foreigner and Out For a Kill were all over Europe and all his forthcoming ones seem to be very international also. Even Half Past Dead, supposedly set at Alcatraz, was filmed in Germany. It's a shame in a way as I feel his films won't be as successful when they're not America-orientated but hey naturally I'll still watch 'em.

It really does depend on the Dollar. Over the past three years we have had a lot of american films made at our facilities (very sadly not Steven - but still hoping!!) If the dollar swings, then everyone will be heading to the States. It is also much much cheaper to film in countries such as the Czechoslovakia, Rumania, Hungary, and some eastern countries, where they welcome the money, extra's work and publicity for their country. It is very expensive to film in the US, particularly in California or New York.
