Returning: The entire Star Wars cast will return for the next film Ian West/PA Wire.

Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy has confirmed that the entire cast of The Force Awakens will return for the next film.
The president of Lucasfilm has said that iconic cast members Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will all appear in Episode VIII, as will newcomers John Boyega and Daisy Ridley.
Speaking to Bang Showbiz at the London premiere on Wednesday night, Kennedy said: “There will be a handful of new cast members in Episode VIII but also all the cast members you see here tonight will be in it as well.”
She also admitted that the cast won’t have much of a break following the current promo tour as they’ll begin filming again in the New Year.
“We're excited to get back together. We start shooting Episode VIII in January, we've been prepping the movie for the last year and (writer-and-director) Rian Johnson has been doing an amazing job,” she said.

J.J. Abrams Teases The Force Awakens Connection to Star Wars: Episode VIII.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will debut in 2017..

Unlike the “Star Wars” films of yore, the new batch of movies set in a galaxy far, far away are set to be pushing into production and into theaters in the quickest succession of the franchise yet. Speaking with Wired, where he opens up about a number of topics like composer John Williams and casting the film, director J.J. Abrams spoke about the art of connecting the upcoming “The Force Awakens” to Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII.

“The script for VIII is written. I’m sure rewrites are going to be endless, like they always are. But what Larry (Kasdan) and I did was set up certain key relationships, certain key questions, conflicts. And we knew where certain things were going. We had meetings with Rian and Ram Bergman, the producer of VIII. They were watching dailies when we were shooting our movie. We wanted them to be part of the process, to make the transition to their film as seamless as possible. I showed Rian an early cut of the movie, because I knew he was doing his rewrite and prepping. And as executive producer of VIII, I need that movie to be really good. Withholding serves no one and certainly not the fans. So we’ve been as transparent as possible.

“Rian has asked for a couple of things here and there that he needs for his story. He is an incredibly accomplished filmmaker and an incredibly strong writer. So the story he told took what we were doing and went in the direction that he felt was best, but that is very much in line with what we were thinking as well. But you’re right—that will be his movie; he’s going to do it in the way he sees fit. He’s neither asking for nor does he need me to oversee the process.”

Wired also debuted some new photos from The Force Awakens which you can view in the gallery below.
Very little is known about the eighth “Saga” chapter of the hugely successful sci-fi fantasy franchise other than that Johnson is attached to both write and direct and actor Benicio Del Toro is
confident he’ll appear as the villain. The film will be produced by Ram Bergman and Kathleen Kennedy and will debut in theaters May 26, 2017 following both J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: The Force Awakens as well as the franchise’s first “anthology” film, director Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Two More Actors Confirmed to Return for Star Wars Episode VIII.

Note: Do not read further if you're trying to avoid The Force Awakens spoilers!

    Okay, are we good?
Kathleen Kennedy has seemingly confirmed more actors returning for Star Wars: Episode VIII, written and directed by Rian Johnson. The movie has already done some preliminary shooting with Mark Hamill, reprising his role as Luke Skywalker once more.
Kennedy, the president of Lucasfilm, already confirmed that Gwendoline Christie would be returning as Captain Phasma for the next episodic film. Christie told ComicBook.com she hopes to explore Phasma's backstory a bit more in the next movie.
"The feeling that I’m getting and the feeling that I have, is that I think everybody would love to know more about Captain Phasma. So let’s just hope that happens," the actress said.
During the Star Wars global press day, though, it seemed like Kennedy might have let something else slip. She patted John Boyega, Finn in the film, on the shoulder, while seemingly indicating to him, Christie, and Oscar Isaac and said, "and these guys head back in January to start on Episode VIII." Now, in an interview with Mexican publication Excelsior, she confirmed they'll be back for the next movie. While London's Pinewood Studios is the primary location for shooting, some will be done in Mexico, she told them, with Boyega and Isaac both on location there soon.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is ‘Much Darker’ in Tone, Says John Boyega.

Star Wars: Episode VIII will hit theaters in 2017.

Whether you savored every minute of Star Wars: The Force Awakens or were raging at every plot hole, both fans and detractors seem to agree on one thing: John Boyega rocked. The 23-year-old English actor’s performance as Stormtrooper-turned-hero Finn was a highlight of the movie, and now the fan community has a year and a half to debate what Finn’s trajectory in the universe will be once Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII arrives in the summer of 2017. Will he become a Jedi? Will Finn and Rey hook up? Will Finn and Poe hook up? The possibilities are endless, though Boyega confirms to Vogue that, much like The Empire Strikes Back, the middle chapter in the sequel trilogy will head towards the dark side.
“[We’re] just starting work on ‘Star Wars VIII,’ the next film, so I’m back to keeping secrets again,” Boyega said. “It’s great. Much darker, but we’re very excited.”
As for whether his injuries sustained in battle with Kylo Ren will require any cybernetic enhancements, we’re not sure, but the actor is certain there will be a lot more fighting next time.
“No, for [Force Awakens] we really just took it scene by scene, there wasn’t a huge regime,” Boyega continues. “My part in the next film will be much more physical so I might be in the gym a bit more.”

Star Wars: Episode VIII Delayed Until December 2017.

Star Wars will continue next December instead as Disney announces they have had Episode VIII delayed seven months.

The saga will be continuing a little later than originally planned. Rian Johnson‘s Star Wars: Episode VIII, which was planned for release on May 26, 2017, will instead arrive nearly seven months later. The studio has had Episode VIII delayed until December 15, 2017. Jumping in to claim the original May release date will be Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

The move to have Episode VIII delayed follows the extraordinary success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which was the first Star Wars movie to premiere in December. In the popular holiday moviegoing corridor, it smashed numerous records, including biggest domestic and global debuts of all time as well as the biggest domestic second and third weekends, en route to becoming the highest-grossing domestic release of all time with over $861 million and the third-biggest global release ever with $1.887 billion.
Written and directed by Johnson, Star Wars: Episode VIII is currently in pre-production and will begin principal photography in London next month. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman will produce and J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski, and Jason McGatlin will executive produce.

Production begins on Star Wars: Episode VIII.

You’ll never see the ending of Star Wars, and there’s no better way to be reminded of the dominance of the franchise than a Walt Disney Company quarterly earnings call. Speaking about the profitability of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and its merchandise, CEO Bob Iger revealed that not only has production begun on Star Wars: Episode VIII, but also that work on Star Wars: Episode IX is underway too.
“Filming of Star Wars: Episode VIII, the next chapter of the legendary saga, has just commenced and it will be in theaters December 2017. And production of Episode IX, a 2019 release, has also begun.”

Daisy Ridley Talks Star Wars: Episode VIII and Luke Skywalker.

Daisy Ridley Talks Star Wars: Episode VIII and Luke Skywalker.

Two weeks ago, principal photography began at Pinewood Studios in London on the hotly-anticipated Star Wars: Episode VIII, as trumpeted by Lucasfilm’s epic announcement video. Some were a little confused by the video’s footage of the “Excalibur” scene from Star Wars: The Force Awakens of Rey returning Luke and Anakin’s lightsaber, wondering whether they were looking at outtakes from Episode VII or new footage being shot specifically for Episode VIII. Now, actress Daisy Ridley has seemingly confirmed to MTV that she and Mark Hamill were indeed re-enacting the now-iconic end scene for the new film.
“Me and Mark have been rehearsing a lot, and it’s really amazing,” Ridley said “When we went back to Skellig to do the opening of [Episode] VIII, it was so crazy doing the same scene with a different crew of people. He’s amazing to rehearse with, and I’m very excited to be doing the rest of the stuff. It’s such a good story. Seriously. Luke is so cool in this one. Really.”
The September pre-shoot footage from Ireland’s Skellig Michael Island (aka “Ahch-To” in the Force Awakens shooting script) seems to be setting a new precedent for a Star Wars movie, as all of the previous entries picked up a fair amount of time after the previous installment, ranging from a few months between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi to 10 years between Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones, not to mention the decades-long gaps between trilogies. Episode VIII will apparently start right at the moment Rey meets Luke, and then hopefully continue on to her training as the legendary Skywalker’s new Padawan.
In other news, Making Star Wars has posted a new Instagram photo (via Jedi Real Estate) of Ahch-To island being recreated at Pinewood, which has been rumored for a while due to environmental and safety issues keeping the filmmakers from doing the extensive shooting the script calls for on-location at Skellig Michael.
Continuing the epic journey of Rey, Finn, Poe, and Luke Skywalker in the next chapter of the continuing Star Wars saga, Star Wars: Episode VIII is written and directed by Rian Johnson. It welcomes back cast members Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis. New cast members will include Academy Award winner Benicio Del Toro, Academy Award nominee Laura Dern, and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
The sequel is produced by Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman and executive produced by J.J. Abrams, Jason McGatlin, and Tom Karnowski.

    Star Wars: Episode VIII
is scheduled for release on December 15, 2017.
