Well, they didn't do any character introduction as someone said...
Steven is a natural teacher, so the professor role was fine, only they should have shown him doing a little bit more as the prof, so we could get into it...
As in most of Seagal's films; the introductory character is verbal...
we are always given a brief background...
we had this in MFD,US,ODG,TGM,etc
In OFAK he was a thief of expensive paintings and Chinese artifacts..as the one family head states "He's one of us".....when he returned to the US in '85 the Fedsbusted him and he did 7 years in a Fed pen....where he utilized his time and knowledge of Chinese artifacts to earn a doctorate in Chinese archeology....which gave him title of professor ......
and of course when they punch it in the database there's nothing known of him prior to "85(I think it said)
TGM we knew he was a government assasin..
US we knew he was a leader4 of a seal team,
The Patriot we knew he was a bio-chemist that developed bio-logical weapons
Ticker we knew he was leader of a assualt team(I think he said) until 'something went wrong and alot of his boys got killed'
etc.
tho' we never saw the character.....we did get an idea of the background that lead him to where he 'was' in the film.
in ATL,HTK we got a couple of prior scenes....in ODG we get the whole 'transformation' from one charater to the next...
In most instances we are told he was basiacally "evil' till something crossed his path and changed his character to where the film usually picks up on......which is why I always thought Seagal's present character
in the film was so determined and basically unstoppable....knowing of the past he created and trying to make good out of the evil he did.
I thought that was the 'trademark' of Seagal films
