I already have a 4 year old daughter and I gave her a common name. But soon I may have a son and I want to give him a Japanese name (Takuma). Me and my girlfriend are both Chinese. I always try to tell her why I want to name my son Takuma, but she can't accept Japanese names. I have been talking to her about this for the last year.
I picked the name Takuma because I am naming him after 3 different movie or video game characters :
Takuma Tsuguri from THE STREET FIGHTER series of the 1970s starring Sonny Chiba
Takuma Todo from the movie FIGHTING FIST
Takuma Sakazaki from the video games THE ART OF FIGHTING and THE KING OF FIGHTERS
All 3 of those Takumas know martial arts. In fact, all of them do Kyokushin Karate, which is the style I practise. Takuma sounds like a guy who definitely knows martial arts. When I picture a guy named Takuma, I always picture a guy doing a bunch of spin kicks.
What do you people think about me using a Japanese name like Takuma for my son??
And I have checked how many times the name Takuma had been used. I only got information about the name in the US, and only about 5 Takumas are born per year. It's a very rare name. I'm sure that all those Takumas are Japanese.
