Has anyone seen this movie yet? What are your thoughts? I went to see it the other night and thought it was awesome! It's easily the best horror movie of the last few years and it effectively blended ideas from Deliverance, Roadkill, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and an old episode of The X Files to great effect. The deformed mountain men were seriously scary looking dudes with spectacularly dirty fingernails, and they managed to tread the balance between being amusing in parts (specifically the crazy girly one) without sacrificing any of their creepiness. There was plenty of gore and violence to keep the likes of me happy and there were some nice in-jokes and some interesting and original ideas (the tree scene was an interesting premise). The obligatory 'jump' scenes, (which are so common in teen horror movies these days, they are becoming rather tedious) were kept to a minimum and the film relied instead on good old fashioned tension to keep the film moving along nicely. The film wasn't without it's flaws - the characters weren't really developed properly in the sense that you didn't really care as to who lived or died, and there was one ludicrous scene where the remaining 'victims' climbed up a wooden tower to 'try to see the road'. Bit of a mistake, that move. However, all things considered, I would give this movie 8½ out of 10.
