"NEVER MIND KILL BILL AND THE LAST SAMURAI, This is the one to beat 'em all - The Evening Standard
"Kill Bill? Zatoichi would wipe the floor with him! Can't wait for Tarantino? Then get a slice of Takeshi Kitano..." - Empire Magazine
"This is an entertaining mix of stylised violence and goofy humour, with Kitano orchestrating the swordplay, severed limbs, geysers of blood and virtuoso musical sequences in a way that Tarantino would kill Bill for." - Arena
19th Century Japan...Zatoichi is a blind wanderer who makes a living by gambling and giving massages. Behind his humble facade, Zatoichi is a master swordsman, gifted with a lightning fast draw and strokes of breathtaking precision. Zatoichi discovers a remote mountain town at the mercey of the Ginzo gang. The ruthless Ginzo dispose of anybody who gets in there way, quicker than ever, since they recruited Hattori, the mighty samurai ronin.

In a gambling joint, Zatoichi and his trustworthy young friend Shinkichi meet up with a couple of geisgas. As dangerous as they are beautiful, Okinu and her sister Osei have come to town to avenge their parents' murder. With their only clue being the mysterious Kuchinawa, the Geisha sisters have a lot of tricks up their sleeves. Sinister henchmen are soon hunting down? Zatoichi. With his legendary cane sword at his side, Zatoichi's path is destined to meet with many violent showdowns....

Directed by and starring "Beat" Takeshi Kitano (Sonatine, Battle Royale, Brother, Boiling Point)this is samurai film unlike any you have ever seen.

The movie is coming out on the big screen here in my country but I don't happen to be a Takeshi Kitano fan.So to me he still can wipe the floor with Tarantino.:p

Craig, I've heard good things about that movie...

... and it's out for rent here I think, but they say it's only subtitled (not even dubbed ... just like Jet Li's "Hero")... it's a bit of a turn off to read the movie instead of watching it :D

Zatoichi:The Blind Swordman!

I have watched the old Zatoichi films. Bruce Lee used to watch his films and even base characters off it. I will have to check this out.

Thanks.

I have seen this movie... its a comedy mixed with violent fight scenes that incorporate CGI which was easily spotted.

This film is fantastic! I saw it at the cinema and own the DVD.

I am a big fan of 'Beat' Takeshi Kitano. he took the old 'Zatoichi' films and added his own, crazy slant on them. He intended the blood spurting CGI to look that way, as he wanted an over the top look to the film.

Yudansha, even though it has sub titles, you should see it, I defie your jaw not to drop at the closing scene. lol

The mix of comedy and some amazing sword play, made for me, an excellent film.
