Black Belt Man

I would love to see one of Stevens seminars where he is wearing his hakamas
I have only seen him wear them in Out for justice where hes making firewood (actually stripping bark with a spade looks like) strengthen forearms.

And..anyone speak Japanese I would love to know what he is saying at he beginning instructions of ATL I got the jist of most of what he was tryin to say (being almost bb myself in TKD) but im used to Korean lang. and it kind of threw me (no pun intended) Im referring to whats sounds like sho dasho he is explaining about a wrong grab somewhere (at the wrist area)I know that the dozo lead to Randori o r a multiple attack which he traditionally knocked them into each other..as if they didnt know hed do that..duh..thats why hes the master huh?

THe triple or quad clap at the beginning is facing the altar they are inviting the spirits of the teachers to join them. the rei or bowing you will do alot of and heaven forbid you dont rei when called upon youll be snt back to do it again with the rei. (respect in class always). its an honor to be chosen and when you are you rei to master a thank you for being chosen. IN Aikido only as far as I know .

In our class you bow from waist down (my grandmaster is a very high 9th dan) only an equal can nod a bow he gets few head nods nobodys that high up)

Oooh I love the scenes in ABTL, amazed by that as I knew nothing about aikido at that time...And I like the sideburns, hehehe...;)

Oh, Steven...Won't you grow them back, at least for a while, baby?
They look so good on that very handsome face of yours...;)

Just one word : AMAZING!!!!! NO DOUBT !!!!!

my bad

It was "Hard to Kill" he was outside whacking a tree looked like a spade when he was remembering what they did to his family he thought his son was dead and he knew his wife was

..did anyone notice a subtle message when she was shot then he was shot when they pulled back you could see he was holding her hand he had made it back to her and wanted to go with her if he went. when you think about it that spoke volumes about why he was determined to get revenge.

yep thanks for the pictures he does look good in them, as for me trying to walk in them is another story, a dfroend of mine years ago let me try to walk in his he was a black belt and I didnt last too long before hitting the mat it takes some skill to walk i n them I was only too happy to give them back..rather watch Steven anyway. lot different when youre the uke (the flippee)..trust me. ;)

Are you talking about wearing hakama? Nothing special really... takes a couple pf minutes then there's no problem training in them.

I think in the begining of Above the law it translates roughly to
-...it doesn't matter were or how the attack comes... it still comes on the line...right... aiki means to become one.... become one with your attacker...go ahead/..."

Steve's Destiny
Hmmm....

No hakama there....
That's nice...it means I've actually seen him in undies....

Don't they wear gi pants underneath the hakama?
Besides, he was wearing undies in Exit Wounds...:D
If that was him and not a stand in that is...;)

Traditionally the white gi (top and pants) were the "underwear". You then had some kind of pants (hakama or other tighter pants) and a jacket. Over it all was a haori (Like a nice robe). Though the men wore loincloth, so I guess that counts as our equivalent of male "undies".
When one traditionally trained martial arts, it was custom to wear hakama, and the rare occation one trained without weapon (jujutsu) I guess some thought the hakama was in the way to much plus the fact that Hakama fabric was too expensive in the beginning of 20th century, to waste on the rough and tumble of jujutsu. So training in the "underwear-only" became praxis doing jujutsu. In the weapons art there were lesser need for this since the wear and tear of the hakama was smaller. They, like me, prefered to train with pants (hakama) on!

He's actually wearing a Hara Belt, rather than a black belt, used to help create and maintain a sense of your hara.
