I found this article:

Private training with Seagal Sensei: A Tenshin Dojo member only training will be conducted in May 2004 at Seagal Sensei's home in LA. This training is open to current Tenshin Miami, Orlando, and St. Louis dojo members. Black belt testing will be conducted that weekend. Candidates from Tenshin Miami are Juan Carlos Gonzales, Dimas Infante, and Abraham Caballero.

Steven Seagal Seminar in Miami: We're currently in the planning stages for a seminar with our teacher here in Miami sometime in 2004. At this time we don't have a firm date to post due to Seagal Sensei's heavy filming schedule this year. Sensei will be on the road for nine months this year! I spoke with him last night (01/26/04) and he said that he would love to come to Miami and conduct a seminar. The last time we had Sensei scheduled for a seminar here in Miami we got hit by hurricane Andrew the weekend before the event!

Sensei Jorge J. Angulo, 4th Dan.
Chief Instructor
TenShin Dojo

This is an Aikido thread! Not Romantic class number 101..take it to the off topic ladies where you started your own thread & lets keep it there once & for all!

Wow, Amos, I never thought I'd hear you complaining....:(
Some people say the site is going downhill, I hope that's not true...
I'll always be here for the Sensei as long as the site is here...

ok, back to topic....Just a little question...Does Sensei get compensated for his teaching and the black belt testing at these seminars at his home? And does he do all the testing at these seminars? Just curious, hope someone knows the answer...I know they are very private and rare affairs and all, but I was wondering...It's good to see him back into the aikido again, he's undoubted the best, the master! And I am sure everyone wants to be affiliated with him...Of course he is affliated with ten shin dojo, because that was originally his, right? And they use the symbol don't they? You know the one? Anyways, just curious, any replies would be most welcome...:)

A certain Shaun Ravens in Long Island, NY, discussed this in the Aikiweb.com board.
I think S. Seagal doesn't take anything for the testing himself. (The fees goes straight to Hombu (main) Dojo, Tokyo). I don't know if he charges for the seminare leading up to the final grading, but my guess is that he does (just like everyone else).
Yes, as far as I'm aware of it, Tenshin aikido is still his branch name.

Thanks, Aiki...:)
I don't think there is anything wrong with getting compensated for the work he does, I am sure hosting things costs money...I do think he is extremely generous, and I admire him very much for that...I was especially curious about the ten shin name...
Thank-You...:)

Ten-Shin can mean a lot of different things. E.g. heaven(divine, heavenly, heart)-earth etc.
There's probably more and better translations for the name in the concept of his aikido branch.

Interested.

I must admit, I'm glad that Seagal Sensei is still filming these days. As for the seminar, if I were allowed, I might go to Seagal Sensei's seminar to watch if nothing else. Seeing him doing aikido in live action would be a valuable lesson for my aikido experience. Aikiboy Lightmystic.
