Purify

Steven spoke in several instances about purification of ones self or Misogi removal of spiritual or physical pollution. Thats why many Japanese houses are sparse theres a statement in Tao te Ching about having much and being confused.,its true
question is what do you do to center yourself ?

do you meditate , yoga, oriental music what do you do to spiriually relax, burn aroma candles go for a walk? play with your pet? all these things are good.

He mentions he drinks tea (I guess he would with all that time in Japan) but it better for you than soft drinks he doesnt like the sugar in them, more than one Asian Dr agrees with him that fatty foods and sugars in excess can alter
our moods too much sugar makes kids not only hyper but alot of times raises
BP due to activity they ordinarily wouldnt do

sage is a cleanser in case your wondring and dont use Nag Champa if you have Asthma its slightly poisonous nature of the herb will not affect non-Asthmatics butu opposite if you are in some people.

I like to listen to rain tapes or rolling streams with quiet oriental music and you?? Steven has his music his guitars and his swords to keep him busy OC off camera he can practice samadhi (should its very relaxing) like in HTK where he has all those needles meditation mentality. his mind was in Zanshin unbroken concentration a must for healing oneself amazing things have been reported from those who use strength of the mind.

This is very interesting, but I have to ask...What do you mean by...if you are in some people? I'm only asking cause I'm asthmatic.

She means the slightly poisonous nature of the herb will adversely affect some asthmatics.

This is so interesting! Thanks.

Thanks, SAS.

I listen to music to relax. Mostly jazz is what relaxes me. When I really need to relax I go to Scarborough (that's part of the GTA) to various Jazz clubs not far from the campus. It may sound strange, but I just go training to relax sometimes too. Comedy clubs relax me very much as well. But I have a feeling that you're talking about a different sort of relaxation ... freeing your mind sort ... (jazz does it for me ... anything with a trumpet/sax/trambone solo ensembles).

I am sure I am the talk of chat. My ears have been ringing.

It was one of his older interviews I believe he was in Tibet cause he was wearing colder climate clothes..like near Everest and the asked him what he did to relax he mentioned his guitar and music, swords probably meaning his forms etc.. and that he liked tea hot.

He liked incense and relaxing music with low lights (is that romantic or what) just to practice his meditation and improve concentration . he did mention about cleansing and sage to clear a room of neg energy. he had some Asthma problems as a child I believe thats why his dad moved to CA when he was small and some labels mention although harmless to most people it has a slight poisonous offset in the smoke which affects slightly to severely asthmatrics depending how allergic you are.

I had pnumonia as kid and some incense bothers me a bit although Im not actually asthmatic I may as well be regarding some kinds of incense..but I like to watch Stevens movies when I have a night off late..who knows maybe he likes that too..
Glad to be back literally..

I enjoy the smell of burning sage.

The smoke of Sage is a common purifying agent used by Native Americans. In India I used several kinds of incense. Some more pleasent and relaxing than others.

Purifying the body I find means drink lots of pure water and take long walks. Meditation helps me cleanse my mind and is good for the body too. I relax at the computer by being very selective.

Sage is very good for burning/smudging; just be careful to not imbibe too much of it in the form of tea. It is a very powerful liver tonic and can be too much so if taken in excess. Nag champa toxic? How so? Actually, any herbs in incense that one has allergy to can be toxic to asthmatics. I am sensitive to pine/cedar and can tell right away if it is used in the incense Simply burn the incence and leave the room until the actual smoke is gone but the fragrance remains.
Purify oneself? Aahhh ... there is a basic point here: what does one want to discard from oneself? If the answer is "the world" then that is very difficult and very few are able to do that; however, it can be done if one so chooses. Sufis strive to clear the heart of everything other than God. What is one willing to sacrifice to reach that ultimate state of purity? The world, the mind, all the nice little comforts we associate with our existence all have to fall away; that is purification. All that remains is the Intention to reach God/enlightenment/nirvana/ whatever "name" one gives That State. The ultimate sacrifice is to deny one's individual existence to meld with the higher state of Consciousness. It is to "die before death"; to leave behind the things of this world. This is perhaps, a bit extreme when one thinks of purification. Perhaps burning incense is one way of reminding us of the Fragrance of God ...

Some told me to buy "White" sage. Others Clary or Holy sage.
I usually use what I can get.

Relaxing for me is walking along the beach just after sunrise; stretched out on a lounger under the trees, listening to the breeze going through their branches; the sound of water lapping against the shore; watching the sun set on the horizon, big and red and tired, sending out its last rays to colour the clouds in the sky purple and pink and green.

(The above only happens when I go on my beach holiday. This year, alas, there will be no beach holiday because the cottage I usually rent is only going for monthly rentals now, and there is nowhere else for me to go that I can afford. Especially since work has dried up again.)

Water can be toxic, too!

Anything taken in too great of a quantity in a small time frame can be toxic.
