but he has always struck me more of a ballet
artist than a Martial Arts type performer. His "moves"
are usually well choreographed but no Martial Arts
"abilities" are shown outside a sound stage. While
Steven's abilities are very well documented all
over the world!
Just an opinion!

Littledragon said:First of all Seagal is a legend in Martial Arts, no one should question his abilities because he has proved himself by attaing a 7th dan black belt in Aikido being a white boy and training with the top masters in Japan, studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the Machado's, some of the best grapplers in the world. Studying ****o-Ryu Karate and attaining a black belt level, training under Karate legend, Fumio-Demura. Having a black belt in Judo as well as a black belt in Kendo/Kenjitsu.
Van Damme dropped out of high school and enrolled in ballet that is where he got his flexibility, he is just a 1st degree black belt in karate, don't believe me?.. Look at the picture below, only 1 stripe (dan). He doesn't have the experience Seagal has had.

Besides Bruce Lee, I cannot think of a more skilled martial artist. Not to mention every other accomplishment related and not related to martial arts that Seagal has attained.
Hey Dragon, you know where I stand with van damme as we had some laughs at his expense previous. But you know his movies are far more martial art orientated than SS.Its as if all his boy hood dreams have come true and hes making movies of the sort that he always dreamed of doing. His actual status as karate ka only lends some suitable credibility to any of his movies. Whether its blood sport or quest, timecop or inferno his style can go from highly traditional to pub brawling style. Jean claude is a movie star in the sense of the word.I may be wrong but I believe he has even had more influential co stars along side him in films that lend even more actual credibility to a movie(probably cos he is only 1st dan). Bolo Yeung in several and the Ping guy from double team.He might not be as good as Seagal but what he does bring to the screen and his immediate visions insure he is immersed in a fantasy world not only to satisfy fans but also himself. Seagal was straight up in the very beginning as far as his training origins began and from here on in seemed as though he neednt dwell on the subject further. He has immersed himself heavily in the persona of a cloak and dagger government soldier. He has totally patented this stereo type uping the anti from many of the earlier types with perhaps the exception 007.He is the consumate vigilante and enforcer where van damme is the valourous and victorious underdog.Littledragon said:First of all Seagal is a legend in Martial Arts, no one should question his abilities because he has proved himself by attaing a 7th dan black belt in Aikido being a white boy and training with the top masters in Japan, studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with the Machado's, some of the best grapplers in the world. right foot more than anything else. I think that is kina of boring. I do have 22
movies of Van Dammes but by far Seagal is more than one dimentional.
