Shouldnt there be a Out of reach trailer soon?

I made a prediction about OFAK, and I was right about that; did one also for BOTB, and I was right about that, too. Both were based on the trailers. That's why I'm so anxious to see the trailer for Out of Reach. I'll have a better sense of where it is on the spectrum from Truly Awful to Mediocre (which, unfortunately, is as high as any of Steven's recent efforts have gone) once I see it.

I'm a realist. You want to call that negativity, you go right ahead. I'm just saying I'm not encouraged by the details, sketchy as they are, I've seen so far.

Come on - Pornstar Pets? That's supposed to instill confidence in me that the guy knows how to write? Oh, please. I did a search on the internet for this Trevor Miller to see if he actually had any other writing credits that aren't movie related. Nothing. Nada. Zip. I even did a search on the other guy supposedly co-writing the film (Alan Levin, according to the actionkings.com site). Nothing on him, either.

I've read "first efforts" of writers who have since become successful. Believe me, it's a very rare bird that flys well the first time out. I know writers who would give anything to get their earliest efforts eradicated from existence, because of their sheer awfulness.

However, I get the sense here that it doesn't matter how awful, how badly written the movie is, it's okay, because as long as it's got Steven Seagal in it, it's the best movie in the world.

I hold him to a higher standard than most people here, so I guess if that makes me negative in those people's eyes, so be it.

And who are you to decide who is a good writer & who isn't?Apart from yourself, maybe:).That Pornstar Pets might be realy good!I'll have to give that a rent!;).

Botb

I always had high hopes for Seagal films until The Foreigner.
And after watching Belly of the Beast, I didn't think it was all that dandy either. I mean come on, The Italian Job was a good movie ... BOTB on the other hand was NOT (overall ... relatively).
I'm not saying that the upcoming films will be bad or whatnot. I'm looking forward to them, but I just can't see them doing as well.

over hyped ... :=))

over hyped?

what was over-hyped? I'd say Half Past Dead was over hyped compared to The Italian Job, Bad Boys II, or even the Matrix!
you gotta be kidding me
you DO realize that they had absolutely no CGI in there
all the stunts with Mini's were done for real
and recall that helicopter maneuvre at the end - now that requires a great deal of skill (skill for such a stunt is as great as the skill Seagal has for Aikido)
with a meter every which way around a moving helicopter...

over hyped?

It was a load of crap imho!!Don't get all defensive about it just because you really like it.We're gonna have to agree to disagree on this one my friend.

The best thing(and only thing)about that film was Charlize Theron!!!Forget the cars man :D

It is true that I find it kind of hard to leave the essentials of who I am and what I do (when I'm not working at my boring day job) when I'm looking at films.

I've been writing for 36 years, reviewing and editing for the past 16 years, been learning about film production off and on for 14 years, the majority of my friends and the people I hang out with here are writers in various genres and media (novel and short story, film and radio), so because of all that, it's true that I bring a lot of baggage with me when I'm watching a film. I can't help that. It's the life I lead, you see. It's kind of hard not to learn stuff when surrounded by these kinds of people on a daily basis.

I simply cannot turn off the critical processes that are necessary to being, for example, a good, award-winning editor. And I wouldn't want to, either. I'm good at what I do; so why would I want to dumb myself down?

And yes, I do believe I hold Steven to a higher standard than most people here. I don't believe he's doing his best with these awful stv films. I know he's capable of doing better. I simply wonder why he doesn't - what's holding him back.

-TD, who absolutely loathes art films and would rather be attacked and eaten alive by fire ants than watch an art film

Trevor Miller's (writer) only other credit is as producer of something called Pornstar Pets. That instills so much confidence....

Honestly, where does Steven find these losers?

Out of Reach

Well I'm sorry but I don't see the point in condemning a film before even the trailer is out, I mean come on why be pessimistic when the film isn't even finished?! It might be a great film, I definitely don't agree with whoever said Belly of the Beast was bad as I thought it was an excellent film. Predicting Out for a Kill wasn't going to be very good was hardly brain science - I mean it was made by the same guy as The Foreigner! I'm really looking forward to Out of Reach and I for one will leave my critique of it until I've actually seen the film. Don't put down a film because it has porn links to a cast member, Abel Ferrara started out in porn and he made some great films, and Sly Stallone started out in The Italian Stallion for God's sake. Whatever it turns out like, it will doubtless be better than anything Michael Oblowitz can hurl at us.

Steve,

I am not condemning anything. I only found Td's comment humurous, and that is to what I was refering to.

Hi Steve,my sentiments exactly.

Peace,
Leon

Sorry Leon, but I think I have to agree more with TD on this one. I put all my hope behind "Into the Sun" and now I'm wondering more and more about that one as well..There have been people(directors, choreographers, actors etc) coming and going and rumoured to be in one day and out the next on this film for months now..Has it even started filming yet and if so where is the cast?
I dont know what to think about Out of Reach either..It dont illicit much confidence in me either I have to admit..If only Warners would give him one final bow with US3 but that'll never happen..Lets get used to DTV and even Zombies in a sub at the bottom of the ocean..Whats next..

I look at it this way: to make a good omelette, you need good ingredients. Same thing goes for a film. And the ingredients for Out of Reach just don't add up.

That's why I'm anxious to see the trailer. I got a good sense of what to expect after seeing the trailers for OFAK and BOTB. I expect to be able to do the same when I see the trailer.

-TD, hoping for the best, but expecting... well, not exactly the worst, but not terribly sanguine about quality, either
