The Master of Fakes
from filmforce.ign.com:

Seagal's Self-Parody
Starring in David Zucker comedy.

May 18, 2004 - Martial arts action star Steven Seagal and comedy helmer David Zucker are teaming up. According to today's edition of Variety, the pair will work together on a yet to be determined comedy at Fox Searchlight.

The deal is reportedly a result of Seagal's promising performance in The Onion Movie, produced by Zucker and Gil Netter. In that film, which opens in November, Seagal parodies his tough guy image and becomes an interconnecting character in various sketches.

Zucker told the trade that Seagal reminded him of Leslie Nielsen, who had a very different career in drama before the deadpan comic-centered one that he currently enjoys. "For a transformation like this, the fewer comedy credentials the better. Steven has zero comedy credibility, which makes him perfect for us," Zucker said.

"Steven gets the joke, he knows he is making fun of himself," Zucker told Variety. "For this to work, you've got to put yourself on the line and risk diving into an empty swimming pool. Leslie trusted that the jokes would work, and Steven has shown he can do the same thing. He doesn't have to be funny. He just has to be himself in a funny setting."

They're still shopping for exactly the right vehicle, but ideas reportedly have Seagal playing a bumbling federal agent.

I'm still not keen on the idea of Steven playing a "bumbling federal agent". Steven as Inspector Clouseau...? Oi. And I also confess I'm not a big fan of Leslie Nielsen's type of comedy, either, so this project fills me with dread rather than otherwise.

Anyway, just so everyone knows, I update the first post in this thread because that is the post that appears on the Index page for all the world to see.
