I have the video from a friend of mine in Japan who knows Sensei of him doing his Seventh dan grading in Japan and it is awesome!!!!!. Just before the grading there is an outstanding demo from His Instructor Hiroshi Isoyama, it is phenomonal!! I cant stop watching it you can see where Seagal gets his stance from. Put it this way I have so much respect for Isoyam's uke after the demo

You see Seagal walk onto the mat with all the photographers snapping away then he just does the business. He takes on Matsuoka, then the Japanese guy from PBT then does Randori incredible!!!!!

A priceless video that has been played on my video every day!!

It cost hundres of dollars but was worth it

Many Thanks

I didn't think people actually graded (physically) for grades above 6th dan. I was under the impression that grades like 7th dan were bestowed upon people out of reccomendation by their Hombu dojo representitives. Odd & interesting that Seagal actually graded for 7th dan.

Yes that is correct-you don't test for the higher rankings, they're as Kokoro said, bestowed upon the person for what they have done in teaching others etc

I too was under the impression that one did not test after 5th Dan. Is this video by chance the 95 All Japan Demo? I too have the video...Hiroshi Isoyama Sensei does a demo just before Sensei Seagal's demo. Sounds like the same video. Is Seagal Sensei's demo about 3 or 4 minutes long?

For all those that want a copy, it IS the 1995 All Japan demo, available from the aikikai headquarters in Japan. Here is the link:

http://www.aikikai.or.jp/Eng/index.htm

Beware:
1 - Video is NOT listed on site.
2 - You have to contact them to ask if available and for how much.
3 - If possible, have request written in JAPANESE, as the headquarters is known for not responding very quickly, if at all, to english requests.
4 - It is NOT a 7th dan promotion test, but as blancocf mentioned, a demonstration of a larger number of aikidoists doing aikido that is done every yr, among whom is Seagal (for that particular yr only). Seagal's portion is very quick and short.
5 - The video will be pricey, probably about $50-60 US.
6 - Re: musubiuk's offer to get you a copy. The aikikai is not friendly to folks who flought copywrite law, so be careful.

His uke probably was Sensei Azuma. He has his own dojo and is another force of power that makes me feel pain. Ha Ha.

I believe it's footage from when S. Seagal was doing a demo in All Japan Aikido where many japanese people demonstrates there aikido. Just so happend that Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba after the demo bestowed upon S. Seagal the grade of 7th dan.
