The Black Belt goal and Budo

How do you think going for your black belt would make you a better person as oppose to when you started (Black belts welcome to answer this too we were all new once) and as white belts desire to be black belts ,black belts never forget being white belts.
once upon a time humble expience sometimes, once I was off white belt for quite awhile ad had to have a yellow belt (after white) to show us both (Im almost red belt 2 from black) been awhile and I forgot a part master teased me Im gonna get you a yellow belt..(got one sir)long time ago. It happens.

What are you gaining from your class that says this made me different and Im going to help my younger classmates by...? do you assist..? I do sometimes. There is no board breaking in Aikido right..Im in KD and we do but Im going to Aikido next..tell me what you all do.

just to let you know I tried a pair of Hakamas on (friend of mine was a black belt in it and I tried to walk in them with his masters okay at his dojo and lets just say I was glad there was a mat in front of me..I flopped over and about got attacked by the kids class coming in I had three or foour with bokkens (wooden swords pointed at me) larn early dont we..looked up and there they were "capturing" me on the mat. (1982 those kids probbly got kids now)

Wel I haven't started training in Aikido (or any martial arts)yet, but going towards a belt is not what I would have in mind-that isn't the idea of Aikido

I wrote a long answer, but somehow it got lost....
So the short answer: Rank shouldn't matter.... but most times it does. Human nature.
I'm proud of my achievements, but in the same breath I never consider myself as anything as a student.... Frequently rhough I bump into people in other dojos as well as my own who behave as they are teachers when they really should concentrate on being students.

I have to admit that there would be some satisfaction to actually get a black belt, but it means nothing without continuous training. I'm only a yellow belt and so try not to form opinions, but we have a blue belt who has recently come back after missing about 2 months and declared he's ready for his brown.
Sensei and some of the other high belt students are not too impressed with his performance. Everything he does uses too much strength now.
I agree with Aikilove, I seem to be coming across those who are all too willing to teach before they listen. Makes you glad of the sensei you have!
I hope by the time (if) i become a black belt that i am a lot calmer in violent situations and not intimidated by people as much.

Confidence

Juukaki:
Welcome you are new to me, not seen your post before, I remember well being a yellow belt back the I was thrilled to just have a color. Been awhile. But althouh colors shouldnt matter we all know they usually do I have to admit I have been looking forward all my life to a black belt and being only 2 away its exciting to me even yet. (Im in 3rd year)

While I agree we should wear our belts in our heart not around trhe waist as we also were taught you mentioned you would be less intimidated what does that mean? You should be losing your intimidation as you go and have more confidence as you prgress, we spar with blck belts from day one just no contact I remember once throwing high kick watching him smile my opponent kicked his leg almost to my head and I saw that black lettered belt woosh past me my master said "watch out now" then to me "hes my grandson" I was a white belt at the time.(I hadnt noticed the belt cause I was concentrating on my tech, I was suprised when I saw it woosh past)

Keep it up I am real bg and people bet I couldnt make it past orange, Im almost red 2 from black..so now I get no more arguments.about can I do it just cause I want to, you gotta want to for you. Satisfacvtion ios what its about. what youre comfortable with. Good Luck!
