THE FOREIGNER vs HALF PAST DEAD

So then.....what did you guys think of the foreigner?

I thought it was an ok-ish (yet muddled) attempt to put SEAGAL in R-rated baddass mode again.
SEAGAL (as usual) was excellent, but the direction lacked any real logic, and i was checking my watch (at one point) waiting for the fight scenes to come. The (slap-fu) fight scene with the black-guy was ok, if a little over-cooked (i wish they'd stop using fancy camera tricks....we all know SEAGAL can STILL make fight scenes look good, naturally) and so many characters were brought in only to be mowed down (and not always by SEAGAL)

Yes..it had the 'hard' edge over HALF PAST DEAD, but HPD was slickly done. I guess if they had taken the bad things out of THE FOREIGNER and HALF PAST DEAD, melded the two films together, you would have had a better movie, than both of them.

I think SEAGAL gave a better performance in HPD, and seemed to be having fun. You could see the chemistry between SEAGAL/JA RULE, much more than DMX (who still can't act for sh*t....CRADLE 2 THE GRAVE, anyone?)

I think that if HALF PAST DEAD had THE FOREIGNER's 'violence', you could have well had another UNDER SEIGE on your hands.

So if i had to choose between the two, i think i'd go for HALF PAST DEAD, but i'll watch THE FOREIGNER again tonight (as i'm sure it'll grow on me!)
Hasn't OUT FOR A KILL (great title, by the way!) got the same directer as THE FOREIGNER (i hope he goes for a more balls-out approach, and doesn't skimp on the action)

BELLY OF THE BEAST sounds like a good film, from the plot synopsis, i have read

What do you guys think?

I Belong To Steven
I liked HPD better, the TF's plot left something to be desired...I am looking forward to the new ones, I think they are going to be well done films as Steven seems to have more to do with the goings on in them more than the last two....He doesn't get near enough credit, In my opinion...

Well, I am looking forward to Out for a Kill if he is playing the "Robert Burns" character and not the "Travis Bidner" character. IMDB has two plots listed with two totally different lead characters. Who knows which one is which..

I agree, if you put the to together you would have an average film, still nowhere near Steven's early films though.

The film would have ultra voilence in every scene......apart from Steven seagal's, where he would attempt to slap you to death.

I like 'em both

I like both Half Past and Foreigner but like it's been said if the slickness of Half Past had been put with the violence of Foreigner we could have had a serious kick-ass film on our hands. I just can't understand why the makers of Half Past had to go for a PG-13 rating and exclude all the bone-cunching violent nastiness Seagal fans are used to. That rating is what ultimately killed the film. It aimed Seagal at an audience who aren't used to him and excluded the 'R' audience by making it a PG-13. That said I stil love both films immensely and that explosion in Foreigner when Seagal lures the black guy to the wrong package has to be one of the best I have ever seen.

You are joking arn't you???

yeah the size of the explosion is impressive, but when they go back to the building in the morning, all it has is blown out windows.

What a joke, just like the rest of the film.

It amazes me how people can actualy say HPD and the Foreigner are good films, they rank along side Ticker, ok, so HPD looks a bit better but as a Segal film they are terrible. but I guess we have to expect more of the same to come.

The Max Ryan character sneaked all the way up to his bosses door, shooting a waitress and a few guards on the way, then just walked up to two guards and handed them his gun.

If you're going to slam the film, the least you could do is spell Seagal's name correctly.

I just saw The Foreigner, and I must say, I liked it quite a bit - in fact, I give it a slight edge over his earlier films, because he's actually *acting* in this film - he's not just being "Steven Seagal".

I agree the explosion in the train station was over done, but maybe they make walls stronger in Poland than they do over here ;).

I gave it a 4/5. I like political intrigue, so I had no problem with the plot; I would have liked to have seen more action, but, hey. I did like it better than Half Past Dead, although HPD did have its moments, as well. However, I found during the second viewing of HPD, I'm skipping over the bits that don't have Steven in them; whereas in The Foreigner, I'm watching it all the way through, because I like the story. (And I would have loved to have seen it on the big screen, but alas, it went straight to video in NA, so there's no chance I'd even be able to see it in a rep theatre.)

Different strokes, of course.

Well, of course. Business is business.

No one had the correct accent

Correction: no one had the correct accent if you're thinking of American actors trying to emulate European accents (or what they think European accents sound like). There's a lot more linguistic crossover in Europe than you think. My dad's Polish, but he doesn't speak English with a Polish accent - it's sort of like a German accent, but it's still "wrong" in terms of what one expects a German accent to be like.

The Max Ryan character sneaked all the way up to his bosses door, shooting a waitress and a few guards on the way, then just walked up to two guards and handed them his gun.

Balls, I'd call it. The guy was completely nuts and it was totally in character for him to do exactly that.

So far, your complaints about The Foreigner haven't had much merit. Got anything else to moan about?

-TD, being testy. The Foreigner was actually very good, imnsho. So there! :p
