Anyone else a big fan of the original film?
I'm pretty excited at the thought of any new Seagal movie, but I am especially excited at the thought of him remaking The Yakuza simply because it's one of my favorite movies.
Bob Mitchum gives an excellent performance, and Takakura Ken is just amazingly charismatic (back in his native Japan, he was known as "the man who never smiles"). The action is pretty solid too, and was a huge influence on John Woo when he made his classic Hong Kong gangster flicks. But what I like most about this movie is the sacrifice/friendship theme, and one scene in particular that I won't spoil but that you will know if you've seen the movie. Powerful, powerful stuff.
