Oh yes,Little Dragon,we can be good friends...After all I'm not even a MA expert...:)Just an observer.
Oh yeah, and someone told me once how Bruce could push a man slightly and he'd fly 5 meters forward,it's that immense inner energy he had and he could focus it so well...Nah...no matter what good aikidoka Seagal is there are many other martial artists who'd lay him down quite without a problem...especially Bruce Lee.:)

I'm curious as to the question. Are we only talking about movie martial artist?
Most of the people mentioned in the post have studied Budo. However if we are talking "Best Martial Artist Today."
I don't think you people have watched K-1 Japan or Pride. These are world wide competition for all styles of martial arts and most of the people named in this post would not stand a chance in these tournaments. Tournament martial artist (for lack of a better word) train 8 to 16 hours a day, six days a week and all year long (kinda like the old school monks He He) no retreats or $hollywood$ parties so to speak. Anyway to say who is the "Best Martial Artist Today," one would have to see the outcome against an opponent. To bad so sad our movie stars are under to much of a written contract to give us our monies worth lol.
So I think right now it would be *Mieruko "Crop Cop" or maybe Remy from K-1, as the "Best Martial Artist Today."
There of course is the spirtual side of this as well and Shihan Seagal fits this side nicely.

K-1 is great for a sport to poularize martial arts but if you put any of those K-1 fighters you have mentioned in a muay thai contest they would not win. Just because they are a world champion in kickboxing or a sport does not mean they are the best martial artist.

In order to be the best you have to have the highest knowledge of the arts and philosophys. You have to be familular with the other arts study them know them. Skill speed strength spirit is also. Remy vs. Bruce ha!
Bruce would win without a doubt. I love K-1 Remy is good in kickboxing but he does not have what it takes to be the BEST martial artist.

Ok when do you want to come over? LOL

I am only 15 years old! I study the martial arts every day, 4x international tkd champion imo I have superb knowledge evven more than people older than me who have been doing it for a long time.

Bruce used the one and three inch punch, he wanted to show the public how so much energy could be absorbved with just little space... He only used one inch - 3 inch to just tap the guy and make him fall all the way back.

Okay besides Steven you missed Phillip and Simon Rhee (Dae Han one with eye patch on Best of the Best) they have been both to the Olympics and placed in 1980.

I have spoken with Simon he is truly a soft spoken and very polite master but hes totally lethal out there why he does his exercises alone for safety
he has been stated as having some of the most beautiful MA moves on film and different from Stevens . I love to watch him move powerful yet poetic

Yes i lvoe Simon and Phillip. Suberb tkd practicioners. Phillip was on the 1988 Olympic US Tkd team.

They are great!!

Dragon,

True about Remy but we are talking about Todays MA. Of course Bruce Lee is the Master. And what 60 year old legend have you heard of recently to fullfil the spirtual side of all this?

I think Muai Tai fighters are one of the most trained athletes in the world. But isn't it a sport and not a Budo. The Muai Tai camps are stickly for breeding sport fighters. My best friend is a Muai Tai fighter (from Thailand) and he said he had to study Japanese culture in order to well round his training. And so I guess if you add Muai Tai you have to add a gun lol.

Is kickboxing a martial art as well? Well I guess I would have liked to study with Master Yip Man. Anyway I will be staying in Japan a little longer now to learn from a Zen master to get a real philosoical apporch as to my Budo Training.

Maybe you dont like him but you CANT deny he is a superb fighter. Probably the greatest fighter of all time.

Alright I can't deny that, but I also can't sit and watch his movies. My son watches Bruce Lee as much as he can and really enjoys them, and I am glad he does but I don't.

If you all want my opinion... I don't think there is such a thing as a "Best" martial artist. Just per definition 'artists and 'best' doesn't go hand in hand. And Little Dragon, with age comes humility, trust me.

Why dont you like Bruce Lee movies? He paved the way for Jackie, Jet, Seagal.

Without him there would be none of these stars today because without Bruce's MOVIES martial arts would have never been so exposed and popular as it is today...

Kickboxing is a sport that promotes the martial art. Muay Thai is more of a martial art because it goes by the TRADITIONAL values. Also before the thai fighters fight they perform their TRADITIONAL dance. Preserving tradition while taking apart in sport tournaments...

Yes it is true that Bruce Lee is the 'father' of martial arts movies, but someone would have done it sooner or later. Just like anything someone has to be the first and Bruce Lee was the first, but if he never started it someone else would have.

If Bruce Lee was never here I think that Jackie Chan would of started the whole thing. This is only my opinoin. Everyone is entitled to their opinoin. I do know that you like Bruce Lee, so does my son and husband but that does not mean that I have to. Sorry that I said anything wrong but this is how I feel.

Why are you sorry, you didnt do anything wrong just expressing my opinion and you are expressing yours..

Jackie started out with Bruce by being his stuntman. If Bruce never exsisted how could Jackie be a stutman for a martial arts movie if all the martial arts movies at the time were just trash and corny?..

Ok littledragon you made your point. I did not know Jackie was Bruce's stuntman.
Not to start anything with anyone the title is
who do you think are the best martial artists today.
and I still think
