Had an "interesting" experience at work today. After two fellow nurses mentioned something about a web site they had been on, I brought up the fact that I had joined one. Most of my friends know of my "affection" for Steven Seagal, but this is the first time I've mentioned to anyone that I had joined a web site (didn't give the name). They were quite shocked and aghast that "sensible, down-to-earth Serena" (boring, in other words) would do such a thing. Of course, they warned me about on-line predators and the like. So watch it you guys, okay?! :D

It got me to wondering, do any of you share your participation in this web site with friends or family? Do they even know you belong? Or do you all just share with each other, which sounds great to me.

I've told my best friend, but she doesn't think I'm weird. She's on an on-line Buffy newsgroup herself and is a Buffy fan-fiction junkie and a fan of James Marsters (Spike) in the worst way. Her sons (21 and 19), Buffy fans themselves, are not nearly as bad as she is, and do, in fact, roll their eyes in resigned amusement whenever they catch her on the phone talking to me about it... so she has no trouble at all with my little obsession, none whatsoever! (Talk about the pot calling the kettle black....).

There are others, however, to whom I would not breathe a word. They simply wouldn't understand.

They would all find it a bit odd. ( if it isnt slipknot or good charlotte then its no good )

I happen to like steven seagal.

Well, my parents know, but no-one else knows about it...
I really don't have too many close friends anyway...
And I am sure most people would think I was strange to be hanging around here, writing Steven love poems and letters...
I am sure they wouldn't understand what I feel, and it is a very personal thing in a way...
Of course I feel that since we are all fans here you guys understand me a little...

Hi Serena, Yes, everyone who knows me are aware I adore Steven and that I have watched each of his films at least 5 times each! My friends, even my parents, know I am a member of this web site! I also use my actual name....All my online friends are here! I also love it here, and I do let my friends laugh, because of my deep admiration for Steven Seagal............love ya katrina:):)

I have been blessed by getting to know you all, and I think everyone here is wonderful...:)
BTW all, I am VERY proud of my love for Steven, I did dedicate that poem to him and all, and you all know I think he's the greatest most gorgeous guy in the world...
But my feelings about him are quite personal too...
Some of what I want to share with him is mainly for two people to share

So....what's the website here really got to do with him technically, anyway?
It's not even the official site...He might visit, but who really knows...;)
I wouldn't want to exploit him at all though, somehow, I feel a deep need to protect him...
(from what I don't really know, what could I do to protect him, LOL...)
And what harm is mentioning his name going to do, really?)
Technically it might offend or embarass him that I am soooo adoring
I suppose (I hope not, though) but just in case, I still don't tell everyone that I want to meet, love, and marry the man...;)
In case we ever did get to meet or date or marry (wow, I am really dreaming now, eh?) I am sure there then would be plenty of noteriety going on, probably way more than we'd like...
Also, if I were to tell so called 'friends' they would likely just say I was dreaming an impossible dream, because he is too famous a man to ever meet...
And that is a BIG let down even though it might be true...
But if I were ever lucky enough to become Steven's lady, I would be very, very proud to let everyone just know how lucky I was...:) :) :)

TD - I think it's great that you've been able to tell your best friend about this, but especially nice that she doesn't think you're weird. After all, what are best friends for?

Mark - I'm kinda with you. I don't think I'll be mentioning this to anyone else, unless it's someone who also really likes him. Everyone who knows me knows I'm crazy about Steven and his movies, and I'm not the least bit ashamed of that, but lots of people don't understand "belonging" to a site such as this. Their loss!

Katrina - Good for you! I admire your "let 'em laugh" attitude. You've got nothing to hide, eh?! btw - I also use my real first name. I actually just wasn't clever enough to think up a good user name.

Lotus, sweet, hopeful Lotus - I LOVE your love for Steven. Don't let anyone ridicule your desires or try to talk you out of your dreams. Where would this world be without dreamers, after all? And who knows - anything's possible, right?

I agree though that this adoration is best shared with those that are here, those who really admire this magnifcent man...
Telling someone you like his acting and his movies and even his looks one thing, but talking about what I feel for him is way too personal, except maybe with some of you here...
Oh, once in the while I mention to people I have a thing for a 'certain' man, but I still always keep his name to myself out of respect, of course it has nothing at all to do with lack of pride as I said...
Oh, btw, just wondering, why are there two of this thread?

Serena, I tell everybody because I had a great experience, if you may not know, I met two members of the board personally in june, when I went to Turkey, I met our great members Suzi and Savadee, we took pictures, I watched the Foreigner and HPD on Suzi's home, and I explain to people that that woman I'm with I met here...

Hey, Rodrigo - I didn't know that you were lucky enough to have met Suzi and Savadee. What a wonderful trip that must have been! Were there ever pictures posted at this site with you and them? I would love to see them.

Why would I keep this place a secret? Being a Seagal fan is something to be proud of as far as I'm concerned. Screw anyone who says otherwise.

Very true, I am very, very proud of him, he's the most magnificent man I have ever seen!
If someone doesn't see what he's got is special then they are blind and stupid and I feel sorry for them!
I don't guess I am keeping the place a secret exactly, I just don't tell everyone I am on a mission of marriage and writing love poetry to him because they would call me impossible...
I think anything is possible, he is a man, special I agree, but still a human being...
Heck he's got more humanity in him than most men ever will, that's something now isn't it? I am proud to be here, and will always support this wonderful man...:)


In a word, wow...:D
