I am saving one book, The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, until last as it is the largest, anyone read this book? If so, how has it affected your thoughts (if it has at all)

I'm wondering if this particular book is the one that is reffered to as "The Tibetean Book Of The Dead"....I remember reading the Seagal favored that one and it's a hard one to find(actually all the friggin' books that Seagal recommended to students(they asked him what readings/books he recommended for Aikido stundents during one of the Q&A periods during a seminar) are rare and some only exist in Aisian dialect) ...but the TBOTD has to do with preparing oneself for (death) crossing over.....which of course has to do with how one lives their life....I supposed it could be confusing at times....I've only seen "edits" fom it....it a book that is most readable if one has a "background" first to try to understand what is actually being "taught"...
The Book Of Five Spheres("Rings" in some languages) is another one......but this is easily found and is even on-line to read...there's a few sites I've seen that have it....it's not very long and was written by one of the great samuri after retreating to a cave to retire...it deals with "strategy of life"....which can be used for martial concepts as well as everyday living..this exists in English and can be found to but somewhat easily.

Hi John,

I don't know if it is the same book or not, but from your description it sounds very similar. TBOLAD is written by Sogyal Rinpoche in 1992, I have the updated and revised version( 10th anniversary edition) I have still not read it yet.
I also have BO5R, which is great, and The Unfettered Mind by Takuan Soho who is said to have influenced Musashi.

I'll definately have a sneak around for the the TBOTD & let you know if I find it!

Thanks for the info

R.
