Firefly was created by Joss Whedon, so you knew right from the get-go it was going to have good stories and great writing. It really was a western in space - complete with six-shooters and horses! No ray-guns (well, there was one, but only once). It was bloody brilliant - Chinese was in fact the language and culture for most of the people so to watch a group of round-eyes lapse into Chinese (no subtitles, either!) sometimes mid-way through a sentence - it was disconcerting but fascinating, to say the least!
One of the women in the show - the one who played the Companion (read: prostitute) - was one of the most stunningly beautiful women I have ever seen. Adam Baldwin - big, bad-ass Adam Baldwin (not one of the Baldwin brothers - just his bad luck to have the same last name) (he was the guy who played the bodyguard in My Bodyguard) - played a guy named Jane. Yep. Jane. The rest of the cast was also great, and they worked well together as an ensemble.
And the stories, the writing, everything was Joss Whedon superb. And stupid Fox wouldn't get behind it. Arrrgggh! It was everything I always wanted in a science fiction show, and yet the way it was done, you weren't even aware you were watching science fiction.
