Half Past Dead - finally got it!

I watched it last night and I have to admit - it was a lot better than what I remembered it to be. Steven ad Ja Rule have genuine chemistry and the action scenes are pretty good and again better than I remembered them to be, but a little short.

I watched the deleted scenes with interest - particularly the one which reveals the killing of his wife - I think it would have been better if that one had been left in. Also the 'making of' documentary was excellent, with a few brief snippets of interview with Seagal. All the actors seemed to have a lot of respect for him - in particular Morris Chestnut and Kurupt and in a couple of parts of the documentary he seemed to be really getting on well with his co-stars and having a lot of fun while shooting the movie. I was kinda surprised to see a director's commentary over the entire movie - I haven't gotten round to watching the movie with the director's commentary yet, but I have a feeling it will be pretty interesting.

I meant to come back and answer, but got sidetracked - stupid work for money and all that.

I've commented elsewhere about HPD, but to hit the highlights - not enough Steven in it, and way too much on the invaders. In fact, I liked almost nothing about the film because it seemed to be telling the wrong story. The relationship between the ersatz car thief Sascha and his pal Nick, and the relationships between the inmates were far more interesting than the whole invasion bit. We could still have had the same number of kick-ass fight scenes (and a few more with himself doing the work instead of the stunt double) but it was the interesting relationships between the inmates that would have made a better movie, and one, I think, more in keeping with the types of films Steven had made earlier in his career.

I tend to skip over the Morris Chestnut/wire work bits when I watch this movie. My fingers itch to rewrite the script every time I see it and to re-direct the action scenes without the friggin' wires (Morris Chestnut taking a hundred foot drop down without breaking every bone in his body? What is he, a Jedi Knight or something? Sheesh.)

I agree that the flashback scene with the wife would have been better in the film than out of it, though.
