The guy on ebay can be sued, wanna bet? Steamroller is Steven's prod. company, no-one has the right to make copies of that stuff and sell without his or Philip Goldfine's permission, they are entitled to the money from the sales of The Path Beyond Thought, not some guy on ebay, it isn't their work it's his...
his kids are having food taken out of their mouth because of that sh*t, and meanwhile he's working himself to death...
It's just not fair to him, and I hope someone sees that it gets taken off of there...
He's probably so laid back that he wouldn't mind, but still...

Do you think it's any different than stealing?
He deserves to get paid for it...

Well, then you go ahead and shut ebay down because reselling is all that goes on at ebay, and they haven't been shut down yet. In fact, they are a legitimate co in the eyes of the revenuers.

I have a question, is the The Path Beyond Thought even available on DVD??? I have only seen it on VHS and if it is on DVD chances are it is a pirated copy. Just a question, but one worth thinking about.

It's not available on DVD far as I know, so yes, they are probably pirated copies, if it is indeed The Path Beyond Thought, I mean...
It could be some other tape one of his students made or something, dunno...
I think he should be getting royalties if it's being sold, though....

I don't see what the problem is really. It's ebay and it's very unlikely that any lawsuit will follow. Why would Steven Seagal be paid again for something that he received money for already? ... it's not like the copy is being sold at a greater price than the original retailer's suggested price (which would be illegal ... nothing illegal here).

Steven is entitled to a percentage of each and every
tape that is sold. As far as I know, Steamroller Productions
have not sold their copyright to anyone. eBay is full of rip-offs.

Casey is right...If he wanted to get nasty he could even crack down on the use of his image (in photos) as well...Any use of his image belongs to him, this is common knowledge...I have photos of him, but just to look at, however he could demand money or sue if someone was to use them for profit...He could even get upset about our gallery technically...The person who takes the photos is also owner of the photos, and has rights there too, at least this is my understanding...

Look up 'resale' please. I was not talking about making illegal copies of copyrighted material. I took into account a possibility of originals beeing resold.

The problem I have with this is that there is no DVD of the Path Beyond Thought. So it IS illegal to sell this as it is a copyright violation. The Path Beyond Thought was only produced and distributed for VHS. I agree that people use images and thngs they retreive from the internet, however there are certain federal laws prohibiting the copying and distributing of pirated material. And again, since there is no actual legal production DVD of The Path, then this is clearly against the law, and I am very much against that.

Right...His people should be told and have it pulled of there...He's losing the money for his hard earned work...They (steamroller) produced the VHS version, and no-one should be making money of DVD's but them and him...

gheez, people will do anything to make a buck ... sad. Incidentally, how many of you have seen the doc? It is very good. I got mine way back when the official site was selling it. Isn't it Sundance cable channel that has "doc days" (documentary day)? It would be nice if the could show PBT. Some of their docs are very good.
Meanwhile, whomever sold (and bought) the pirate version will indeed have their karma catch up with them eventually.

I personally wish that The Path Beyond Thought would be produced and put out on DVD. I will not, however purchase a pirate copy and support some criminal who would make profit from Master Seagals work, when he gets nothing. I wish we could jsut turn all these people in that do such things. Oh well, wishful thinking I guess.

Well I agree, they are wrong to do this...He deserves to get credit for his work...
I try to be understanding and realize that perhaps they don't realize it's wrong, somehow they might think they are doing something good for someone...
If there was no-one buying it they couldn't make money...
But it's still very wrong to do these things without giving an artist credit for their work...
I don't know if Mr. Seagal's company will ever put it out on DVD or not, but I'm happy with my VHS copy...
I won't support them stealing from him in any way...
I think someone should tell "his people" and let them pull that stuff of ebay right away...
But in the end greed will get them, so I'm not going to freak out about it...
Maybe someone from Steamroller will read this thread...

Hi, i bought one of these from ebay, and i dont agree this person should get sued WHY?:

well i tried to order the path beyond thought from segals website and
A=he wont ship to the uk
B=the dvd is only in ntsc format

i agree he has a right to money for his work, but to a huge amount of european aikidoka ebay copies are the only way they could see this film
