Steven's MA style rules...:D
He just looks very natural while fighting...
And it's obvious that he can actually use
his training too...
I'm sooo obviously impressed!
Nothing like a big strappin' man who can
actually protect you in a dangerous situation,
eh girls?
Of course, I think Steven has a bit of sensitive side too,
and I can really appreciate that...
He's quite the package know what I mean? ;)

Mike - if you read Rev Dean's post, you will see that he is basically saying that he does not think Li could beat Seagal, but I honestly don't know why we are even wondering about this - the very notion is absurd! Li is excellent in his fighting style, just as Seagal is excellent in his, but there is no point comparing the two of them.

Hello everyone :)
Thanks Amos, G-Man, Lotus, Mama san, Xeo, and Suzi, for the warm welcome. I'll try to stay on topic so I'll post another post off topic

Mike Hello :)
Maybe my post was not as clear to read as it was when I thought it :D

Let's see....... I agree with G-Man in the fact that it is silly trying to figure out which Actor could beat up another after all they are only actors and none of them could beat up Christopher Reeve or George Reeves (who were both Superman ..... But I digress)

What does it take to over come an opponent?
Be willing to do whatever you have to do to stay alive.

Between two willing opponents.... What would give one the advantage over the other?
One that is battle proven will always have an advantage over one that is not.

This applies to all no matter what style one studies or what rank one has.

For instance... one could hold a 3rd Dan in what ever and has never been in a real fight while another could have no official training or rank but has been in, and won, 15-30 street fights.
This type of real life experience is going to give the street fighter the edge in a fight as the 3rd Dan has never been hit and how he/she takes a blow has yet to be seen.

I hope this helps clear up my point of view

What actors are you talking about-I thought we were talking about Seagal and Li..I guess I missed the meaning of your post completely..I guess I differ with you on this point as well because both Li and Seagal are more so martial artists than they are actors..They also act but they got the acting gigs because they were first and foremost martial artists.
As far as your second point: I hope you are not saying that little Jet Li has been in more street fights than Seagal has.
I dont see the point to compare the two and you have your own opinion..
I know a lot of people use the same reasoning to say that Norris would destroy Bruce Lee in a real fight because Norris was an undefeated world champion for seven straight years and Lee, well, he never competed in tournaments..
I would have to say though that Norris would match up better against Lee than Li would against Seagal..Oh, and Li dont always have wires attached to his back and is able to throw around fighters as big as those in the UFC..Li could not compete against one of the competitors in the UFC...
All of the above will never happen though and the martial arts is not about who can defeat the other..I would rather that they not be compared in this way but if someone makes a statement that one can beat another if in a fantasy fight, they should be able to back up their reasoning based on facts..Both Li and Seagal have been career martial artists but Seagal has been with and trained with some of the best in several martial arts..
Li should be compared to Chan more so than Seagal..

Wow - Mike - **** me! Both Rev Dean and myself are making the point that JET LI IS THE FIRST TO ADMIT THAT HE HAS NEVER BEEN IN A REAL FIGHT AND HE WOULD HAVE TROUBLE BEATING A GUY BIGGER THAN HIM. HOWEVER, THERE IS NO POINT COMPARING SEAGAL AND LI. Hope that was clear enough.

Peace.

Mike hello :)
You may have noticed in my post that I didn't even mention either one of them
Allow me to clarify...
I can't say who would win in a fight between Mr. Seagal and Mr. Li ... Both are great at what they do. Jet Li has filmed some of the greatest fight scenes ever. In Steven Seagals early movies he had some of the most realistic fight scenes I have seen on film. The only way that a who is best fight could be settled would be a fight to the death, as neither are competition fighters
However at this point in life I would bet that neither one would be willing to have a fight with anyone... they have to much to loose ( fame, money, fortune....ect...ect...)

Now if the question would have been who do you think would win between
Vitali Klitschko vs Lennix Lewis
Now that is a fight that one could have an opinion about, both are top fighters, but if it were between Sugar Ray Robinson and Mike Tyson that would be like comparing apples and oranges. Even that is closer than comparing Seagal and Li because at least Tyson and Robinson were both pro fighters while comparing SS with Li is like comparing
teriyaki beef jerky to fried rice which one is better as a shoe insert

come get some
I don't think that Seagal's fight scenes were 100% realistic. They were certainly more real than most cinematic fight scenes up to that point, but even in Seagal's movies you still had the action movie cliche of each bad guy "waiting his turn" to try and attack Sensei... In reality, 5 or 6 of them would have all rushed him. The more I see those bar scenes especially (in Above the Law, and Out for Justice), the less realistic they seem. Not only would a bunch of guys have all attacked at once, but someone would have pulled a gun on him from a distance (where he couldn't get to in time to snatch the gun) and just fired. In reality, bad guys don't waste time talking to you.

Having said that, I still enjoy the fight scenes/bar scenes VERY much. :)

Hello everyone and thank you very much for your reply suzy ,nice to hear from you :)
i think jet li is a great martial artist in wu shu i respect him ,but Seagal sensei is for me a model as martial artist ,he s study many martial arts, asian culture, language, medecine and dharma ,he's a complete man .
UfC practice is not a way but only combat ,i respect also these men who come to the fire because it's not easy but noone can claimed i m the best, the stronger man on the world because one day this stronger man can lose the fight :)

And Dean, we seem to be forgetting they are Martial Artists. And any good martial artist would not fight to prove themself better than another.

Is the the reason (in your opinion) that Sensei has never participated in any tournaments? Must be...:)

oyabun

oyabun
hi lotussan, hi everybody,
the reason why Take sensei has never participate to competition/tournaments were because aikido is a budo without competition, the philosophy of aikido is not to fight but to defend yourself and be a better human being.
i see him in several times ,he's the best master teacher in martial arts i never seen ,he's humble ,kind and high level of practice ,but also dharma way he preach peace not fighting.he always says" in case of real fighting you should be always ready ",it's his aikido style , in competition you prepare yourself to be ready for the tournaments it's different ,tournaments have rules not in the street in real fight..
"aikido wa budo de aru "

Thank-You oyabun for the kind reply...:)
I think sensei is most special from what I have seen...
You are very lucky to have experienced his teaching first hand...
I understand that aikido is strictly for self defense, an art of peace, if you will...
So I definately understand what you mean here...
I think I heard him say on the documentary, that all martial arts are a very spiritual practice, and it is this spiritual aspect I see in our beloved sensei is his most endearing quality, it has been the main thing that that has drawn me so strongly to him...
He seems very humble and kind, and I think he must be a most wonderful man...:)
