"Long Way Around" lyrics revisited

While googling for the lyrics to "Long Way Around" from Fire Down Below, this thread from 2005 popped up. I found the same lyrics - in several different locations - that Glimmer Man posted in 2005. However, in listening to the song, some of these lyrics just don't fit. I can't find sheet music and there is no notation as to where these lyrics came from.

Anyone have any information on the lyrics? Or, listened to the song enough to figure them out? Or, have any guesses as to what the singer, Richie Sambora, is actually saying.

Thanx

Cant think of any way to get the lyrics and music to those songs.
Perhaps to write to Steven Seagals Fan club with the enquiry and you might get an answer.
Good luck!

Thank you. I've "been there, done that" <grin>. The Bon Jovi site has all the lyrics, but they are the same ones I found elsewhere and the same ones posted by GMan here. It is odd to find lyrics that are so wrong. I don't think I've ever seen that before. One line in the written lyrics says, "All I've ever wanted in my life was to be POOR". In the song, Sambora plainly says, "... to be PURE". In another place, there is a whole line missing that can be clearly heard in the song. I began looking for the lyrics because there are a couple of words in the song I can't make out. I finally made up those words just so it didn't drive me nuts. I guess that is what the person who wrote down the lyrics did, too! <g>.
Again, Thanx.

Try watching Fire Down Below. When it gets to the ending credits, put your TV on mute. It should have closed captioning, it will tell you what the words are. :)

Thanks! Great idea! I hadn't thought of that. I'll give it a try.

Hi All,

I've tried to piece together the lyrics from several sources. Here's what I came up with. The original lyrics that have been posted all over the web are below. I tried to highlight the questionable lyrics in red and I put the alternate lyrics in ( ).

Thanks for the suggestions.

Long Way Around
From the movie "Fire Down Below"
http://drycounty.com/content/lyrics/song337.html

I am just a traveling man
Alone and in my shell
Beaten by these broken times
Wandering through this hell
And I have taken chances
And I've lost all my rules (I ruled)
The answer's right in front of me
And I have been a fool

I keep taking the long way around
Why must I take the long way around
I keep thinkin' that I'm moving up
When I'm losing my ground
Why must I take the long way
The long way around

All I ever wanted
In this life was to be poor (pure)
Seduced by colors in my eyes
Taken by the hand (lure)
Of all the things I've ever wanted
(and later come to find)
Of all the treasures in my (THIS)
life
The greatest is the mind (a rhyme)

So why do I take (I keep taking that) long way around
Why must I take the long way around
I keep thinking that I'm moving up
When I'm losing my ground
Why must I take the long way
The long way around

He told me what's (You tried to tell me what) the cost
But only when the path is lost
And whoever found (Did you ever find) an open door
In this ocean of suffering
If I've had (I had’a learned) anything
I don't want to hide from me no more

I am just a traveling man
Alone and in my shell
Beaten by these broken times
Wandering through this hell
And I have taken chances
I've lost all my rules (I ruled)
The answer is right in front of me
I have been a fool

I keep taking the long way around
Why must I take the long way around
I keep thinking that I'm moving up
When I'm losing my ground
I keep taking (Why must I take)
the long way The long way around

I keep taking the long around
I keep taking (Why must I take )
the long around
I keep thinking that I'm moving up
When I'm losing my ground
I keep taking (Why must I take )
the long way The long way around

Long way around (background singers)
Yeah yeah (Sambora)

Long way around
thinking that I'm moving up
When I'm losing my ground

Why must I take the long way
Long way around
