The reason Seagal's movies arent as succesful anymore is because they try to have a "message". People want action from Seagal, if they wanted to do spirtual reflection, they would go to church. Obviously his movies do better with a well known cast. "Under Siege" is basically the ultimate example of that. ODG is the example of having a "message" to his films.

You are right TD, I find it hard to get anything spiritual from movies like BOTB. I am sure some people can, but that is quite a stretch, and frankly not why I watch his movies. If his movies can be good and have spiritual messages, I am all for it. But so far Seagal has not managed to capture a good mix of action/storyline with religious contemplation enough to satisfy audiences.

Virtually all big stars rely on good supporting cast or co-stars. Steven's earlier movies had a good story which followed through until the end and were worth watching. This last batch have been poorly produced, directed, etc etc, and as for the story line, well, it seems to me the in the last few, the writer has got bored towards the end, and, instead of following the story through, has brought them to an almost child like abrupt end. ''The big bad wolf didn't eat them up and they all went home for tea'' ..... The end!!! I am not a great fan of martial arts, but if i am going to watch it, then I like it to be as realistic as possible - not moves that would be impossible to do without being attached to a wire. I do like his more thought provoking movies, and loved The Patriot, Fire down below etc they had real and important messages, but his latest lot - well if there is a message, it's certainly lost on me .... or perhaps i had already fallen asleep by the time he got to the message. as for being with his family - which day of this year was that then?

Here's an article I found about the ORIGINAL website (2000)

A Flash Of Steven Seagal 04/21/00 - Company Business and Marketing
, April 21, 2000 by Steven Bonisteel

Steven Seagal launched his official Web site Thursday, offering a Macromedia Flash-powered look at the life and works of the martial arts master who became a Hollywood action star. Since his 1987 debut in "Above the Law," Seagal has kicked and karate-chopped his way through more than a dozen films, and has been credited as the producer on most of them. The Web site reflects Seagal's fascination with oriental mysticism and martial arts, particularly his own specialty, Aikido. In the Steven Seagal online store - which is actually hosted on the Yahoo Store service - fans can buy his recently release Aikido video, "Path Beyond Thought" or pick up hats and T-shirts bearing the logo of Seagal's production company, Steamroller. The Web site also promises to provide up-to-date information on the production of the star's latest movie, "Exit Wounds," which is to start filming in July. Well, I think the proof of the pudding, will be the welcome video - if it ever happens. I have asked his agent and three of his friends (that's as close as I can get) and so far none have any information on the official site. Strange that his agent hasn't even been consulted!

Seagal is slowly but surely losing his popularity. He need to make some real good movies that goes onto the big screen!

He is working very hard for Into The Sun and the most recent pictures of him show he has lost alot of weight so I expect a comeback.

Seagal isn't losing any popularity, but I wouldnt neccesarily expct a comeback either

I dont agree with that. Seagal isnt slowly losing fans. Whatever fans he lost, he lost awhile ago, and sadly, probably will never get them back.

I think people underestimate Seagal. His movies are constantly shown on tv, both cable AND non cable channels, and I can almost gurantee seeing at least 1 Seagal movie on a day. He made a mountain dew commercial. While that may not sound like a HUGE deal, it was a surprising move, proving that not only did mountain dew think Seagal would sell drinks, but that he also is willing to try something new to get fans.

That aside, its safe to say a big comeback isnt likely. Steven Seagal is 53 years old. While we all have our own idea of "old", that definitley is a factor in his ability to relate to the new generation of action fans. "Into the Sun" may have a big budget, but with a limited release and little marketing, there is no reason why it would get Seagal's career back again.

By the way - as this is the "official site is opened" thread, I thought I'd bring it forcefully back on-topic by asking, has anyone bothered to visit the "official" site lately, and has it got anything new on it?

I'm sorry - but I have a really hard time thinking of that awful site as "official", hence why I always refer to it as "official" and not as official - if you catch my meaning.

Yeah... I wonder where they got them from?

I just checked it out, myself. I can't believe "Current News" STILL hasn't been updated! I mean, if they're going to take pictures from our site, why don't they also use our more up-to-date information, as well?

I keep saying this, but the guy running the site clearly has not got either access to or support from Steven or his people, else why is everything so woefully wrong as well as being behind the times?

Seagal JR

under siege 3 soon
Well I've just got back on the net after a couple of years and I went to the "official website" for Seagal and I was very dissapointed if I was Mr.Seagal I'd give the Official title to this site which is far better. (Just my opinion)
