A Hymn

Eternal power of earth and air,
Unseen, yet seen in all around,
Remote, but dwelling everywhere,
Though silent, heard in every sound.
If e'er thine ear in mercy bent
When wretched mortals cried to thee,
And if indeed thy Son was sent
To save lost sinners such as me.
Then hear me now, while kneeling here;
I lift to thee my heart and eye
And all my soul ascends in prayer;
O give me -* give me Faith I cry.
Without some glimmering in my heart,
I could not raise this fervent prayer;
But O a stronger light impart,
And in thy mercy fix it there!
While Faith is with me I am blest;
It turns my darkest night to day;
But while I clasp it to my breast
I often feel it slide away.
Then cold and dark my spirit sinks,
To see my light of life depart,
And every fiend of Hell methinks
Enjoys the anguish of my heart.
What shall I do if all my love,
My hopes, my toil, are cast away,
And if there be no God above
To hear and bless me when I pray?
If this be vain delusion all,
If death be an eternal sleep,
And none can hear my secret call,
Or see the silent tears I weep.
O help me God! for thou alone
Canst my distracted soul relieve;
Forsake it not -- it is thine own,
Though weak yet longing to believe.
O drive these cruel doubts away
And make me know that thou art God;
A Faith that shines by night and day
Will lighten every earthly load.
If I believe that Jesus died
And waking rose to reign above,
Then surely Sorrow, Sin and Pride
Must yield to peace and hope and love.
And all the blessed words he said
Will strength and holy joy impart,
A shield of safety o'er my head,
A spring of comfort in my heart.

Bluebell, The

A fine and subtle spirit dwells
In every little flower,
Each one its own sweet feeling breathes
With more or less of power.
There is a silent eloquence
In every wild bluebell
That fills my softened heart with bliss
That words could never tell.
Yet I recall not long ago
A bright and sunny day,
'Twas when I led a toilsome life
So many leagues away;
That day along a sunny road
All carelessly I strayed,
Between two banks where smiling flowers
Their varied hues displayed.
Before me rose a lofty hill,
Behind me lay the sea,
My heart was not so heavy then
As it was wont to be.
Less harassed than at other times
I saw the scene was fair,
And spoke and laughed to those around,
As if I knew no care.
But when I looked upon the bank
My wandering glances fell
Upon a little trembling flower,
A single sweet bluebell.
Whence came that rising in my throat,
That dimness in my eye?
Why did those burning drops distil --
Those bitter feelings rise?
O, that lone flower recalled to me
My happy childhood's hours
When bluebells seemed like fairy gifts
A prize among the flowers,
Those sunny days of merriment
When heart and soul were free,
And when I dwelt with kindred hearts
That loved and cared for me.
I had not then mid heartless crowds
To spend a thankless life
In seeking after others' weal
With anxious toil and strife.
'Sad wanderer, weep those blissful times
That never may return!'
The lovely floweret seemed to say,

Road Not Taken, The

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that, the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh

You are the one who truly makes my heart sing, and youalone can bring me all the sweet joy, inspiration and deep feeling that you bring
My dear I swear, that I'd accept each and everything that is you, and I'd welcome and love all the amazing things that you'd do

We can ride the stormy seas, and chase endless rainbows, just you and I, we can share endless warm nights, sweet love filled days, we can share each moment with truth kindness and passionate sighs
We can comfort and care and praise, together forever darling, with love and sweet adoration, admiration and true respect, we can move mountains, together we can sit and reflect
So won’t you please consider what I am asking of you, just somehow let me near, to do whatever I can, and let me show there is so much that we can share, feel, see, say and do

I hate to see this half-joyful,half-sad look in your eyes,
knowing that soon will come a day to say goodbye
And I even find myself being unable to define
if it's a gratitude or conviction of a crime
Those bright memories will never abandon me,
for all our lives we were both running to be free,
for you and I would stand a chance to run together,
eye to eye,side by side,run forever...
And the wind was blowing towards us,sinking in its embrace
and the sun,being chased by us,would hide in its secret place
Where are you going?Will you be blown by the wind?
Will you melt into the sun,shining down on me?
Wherever you're heading,you will never give up on your dream
you will keep on running with the wind,running to be free...

Your welcome. I read this poem a while ago and I'm still contemplating it. Thich Nhat Hanh is a very interesting person, I think I may read a book or two by him over the summer.
