George Michael doesn't take well to fan criticism of his weight, music

LONDON (AP) - George Michael might have expected some praise from adoring fans when he set up a chat room on his Web site.

Instead, contributors complained the 41-year-old looked old and overweight and criticized his recent music, prompting the pop singer to announce Thursday he is shutting down the forum. In a message posted on his site, Michael said the negativity was bad for him, his fans and his music.

"Those of you that want to carry on the media's work will have to do it somewhere else I suppose," he wrote.

He signed off: "Sorry guys, but that's the way it goes. ... Peace and Love ... or nothing at all."

The decision prompted a flurry of postings, mostly from supportive fans asking Michael to reconsider.

However, a few deemed the decision unfair and Michael a "control freak."

"It's a fans' forum, it's freedom of speech and I don't think it's down to George to take his ball home and say, 'I'm not playing any more'," one fan wrote.

There are two kinds of freedom of speech:insulting and not insulting. So dear fans, please do not insult your idols.God may be feeling offended too. :D

Steve's Destiny
I don't see the big deal... Can the guy still sing??? That's all that matters.
While is good to stay in shape...they(celebrities) are only human and we all have ups-and-downs in life (and weight).

The point is that they've turned it into the model show and now those cute kissers are all that matters...Let's go back to the era of the dinosaurs like Ozzy and Alice Cooper-anyone ever complained about their looks?:D

Marilyn Manson looks like the freak he is! George is too precious about it. When someone praises non-stop it's false.
Careless Whispers and Last Xmas are classics. It's a long time since he did stuff i liked.
I always wondered why a good looking guy like him batted for the other side. No accounting for preferences eh?

I Belong To Steven
My praise of Steven is not false, even though it's quite non-stop...Believe what you like...It's called being supportive, and being very pleased at what I see, plus there's more to someone than looks, there's charm and charisma...I don't even know what you look like Storm, but I think you're quite charming too, and that's not a falsehood...I am not a liar, nor do I brutalize people by insulting them...
I do try to think before I say things unlike some people who are always moaning about his weight...
The weight doesn't matter, and some people like a little cushioning...
Oh well, whatever...
Somehow I hope he doesn't let it bother him anymore...

Hey Lotus,i was not having a go. I mean someone like George Michael goes to his guestbook, reads non-stop praise and thinks he can do no wrong. I like his music, just not the recent stuff. So don't pounce on a comment not aimed at you. I was not even on about Seagal.
Now behave!:D:)
Ps. I would expect better. I stuck my neck out for you girl even though your more close friends were strangely quiet......

Who really does like talking about their weight? For women there are two questions you should NEVER ask them: How old are you, and how much to you weigh?

LOL tell that to the talk show hosts!

Julie, LOL, those are some of the very first questions that David Latterman always asks. :D
