state of the action genre

its a shame that people like snipes, seagal and van damme are all now considered stv as all have big fan bases and if promoted right could still make good films(look at exit wounds for example or blade)the problem is hollywood is always looking for younger people like colin farrell, matt damon and ben affleck to do the action stuff while seagal, snipes, van damme, stallone and co go stv.i think a film like bourne identidy would have suited seagal and he is a far better fighter than mat damon but the fact is seagal is 51 and far too old for hollywood studios...in fact ss last 2 studio films were hpd and ew and both were seagal and a rap-star with him dmx-ja rule and thats because seagal on his own cannot sell a film in their view but i disagree and think if seagal was to make a gritty film with no rap co star and it was promoted right then seagal could still open with around 14-16 mil in my opinion.....snipes to has got bad scripts of late and its a shame that he is stuck to making blade 1,2,3,4,5,6 etc(just as seagals hope now all pins on under siege 3 as people think its all he is good at is being casey ryback) as thats the only way hell get a cinema release now...even his prison drama undisputed which cost around 40 mil to make and was done by walter hill ended up stv.....

Perhaps all these 'missfits' should put their egos(along with certain biased fans, you bloody well know who you are *points finger*) behind them
and work together?
It's worth a shot, it works for spoof's :D

Sleeping Fox has the right idea... I think that just like the "crossover" appeal of two icons like Freddy and Jason (Freddy vs Jason is doing very well at the box office right now), some of these action stars should also team up together in a movie, combine their talents. Imagin Seagal and Van Damme taking on bad guys together... or even better, Seagal Vs Van Damme.

But egos would definitely have to be put aside...

lol, I'm sorry but Van Dumb Ass and Seagal should never be put against each other, because anyone who knows about them, Seagal is a real martial artist. Van Damme payed the other guys in the tourny to back out...lol...
Perhaps Seagal and Snipes! They're about the same height.
lol,l man and his ego, I'm sure seagal, after some deep meditation could put his ego away.

Snipes isn't over the hill yet and there are still people like Mark Dacascos and Jet Li out there. Van Damme may be currently making STV movies, but they are relatively good and professional-looking. It almost pains me to say it, but I thought Matt Damon was pretty good in The Bourne Identity and Colin Farrell was excellent in The Recruit.

Another one I think would be cool would be Seagal Vs Dolp Lundgren mainly for the reason he is even taller than Seagal. I would also pay to see him in a movie punch up with Jean-Claude Van Damme. I know a lot of people here don't like Van Damme but I personally find him to be a perfectly competant screen martial artist and happen to own an alarming number of his films on VHS. Whether his martial arts credentials are authentic or phoney, he always puts in a good effort in his movies and isnt afraid to appear vulnerable in his tough guy roles. His blatent mooning in his films is annoying though!

Peace.

Van Damme i can only stand sometimes, when im really stoned and one of his movies is on tv i can watch it. As long as its not Street Fighter.

Streetfighter is terrible but i'd like to see him and Seagal both together before they jack it in. Like MMCK, i have many of his movies and don't think he's bad at all.

Hi Storm.

I actually started watching his films again the other night. I bought "Bloodsport" on DVD the other day in HMV, who have a buy 3 discs for £20 offer on at the minute. I bought it along with "Payback" and "Ronin". I think "Bloodsport" was a fairly impressive debut movie for Van Damme and showcased his martial arts talents well. My only complaint about the film is that a lot of the fights that don't involve Van Damme or bad guy Bolo Yeung are very amatuerish looking. The little black monkey fighting guy was as funny as hell though!

I also watched "Double Impact" the other night as well and thought that he did a very good job playing twins in that one and gave each of them some very different characteristics. He also got to fight Bolo Yeung again. Does this guy not like Van Damme or something! LOL

Peace.

I make no secret of the fact i like a lot of his movies. Have you seen The Quest? That involves a tournament and is very similair to Bloodsport and is entertaining. He's kept in shape, despite his well-documented drug problems. Great minds think alike MMCK!

Yeah Storm, I've seen "The Quest" and thought it was quite good. It seems ages since I saw it as I was still at school at the time and a mate of mine lent it to me who was a big Van Damme film and he got it for his birthday I think. I remember it being his directorial debut and it was similar to "Bloodsport" as you had all these guys from around the world fighting in the tournament, with all their varying fighting styles. I think there was a guy from Scotland in it along with one from Brazil and I'm nearly sure the villain was a Mongolian. Is it just me or did anyone else think that the villain he fights at the end bared an uncanny resemblence to the big guy with the pony tail that he fought at the end of "A.W.O.L" aka "Lionheart? Maybe I'm wrong but I thought it was the same guy.

I agree, Van Damme is good and I've watched a hell of a lot of his films in my time. Here is some other latter day movies of his which I quite enjoyed. Other latter day films of his I enjoyed were "Double Team", "Knock Off" and "The Replicant". On the other hand I thought "Desert Heat" and "Universal Soldier: The Return" were sh&te though!

Peace.

We went to see S.W.A.T. w/ Samuel L. Jackson this
evening and I thought it was a very exciting film. I
really enjoyed it.
As we were coming out of the theater I saw an
advertisement for "The Punisher" w/ a release date of September, 2004.
It didn't say who was in it.
God bless,
Mama san

PS:
Just checked IMDB...... Who is Thomas Jane??
John Travolta is in this movie? I don't hold out
much hope for this movie at all!

If The Punisher is as good as the original, it'll be a good one.
MMCK,Desert Heat sucked eggs ok but i was hoping for better in his return to USdr. It wasn't that bad (but bad enough). That wrestler was an ape!

Me Too Momma San, Nothing like seeing a movie in the theatre, especially one with action like that.
And unlike many movies I've been seeing latly, I didn't figure the plot out in 5 minutes.
And holy cow is LL Cool J Built, and he can act too, Good for him lol.
And I'm also glad that they didn't pic a bimbo as the woman.
But still it could have used seagal as something lol. But maybe not....maybe for the sequal?
I've played the Video Game Swat 3, the movie borrows heavily from the game.
But still a great flick.
I can't wait for:
Once apon a time in mexico,
Kill Bill,
Matrix: Revolutions,
and a few more that Ican't think of...anyone else waiting for some good ones?
