Because "EW" had style...

Exit Wounds doesn't have that much fighting in it and with the exception of the short overly choregraphed fight sequence in front of the SUV all of the fight sequences make heavy use of doubles. In fact the fight with dmx in front of the building is probaly 95% stand in. The fight in the bar Seagal mostly poses but the stand in does the throws and flips. So exit wounds is no different than his later films in terms of the usage of doubles. So i don't understand why some people consider exit wounds to be his last great film.
If I remember correctly, Tom Arnold was on Howard Stern around the time "Exit Wounds" came out. Arnold claimed Seagal was always showing up late, acting rude and having his entourage run wild on the set (similiar to the charges against him by NU Image) Howard Stern, being a big Seagal fan, said he loved Seagal, but he is getting so old and out of shape the man can barely lift his legs to kick. Still, I think "Exit Wounds" was his last great film since US2, as it had a lot of great action/storyline, brutal violence, and cool characters. Direction was pretty good, and the soundtrack was great. His newer films have absolutely nothing that I like. In fact, most of the people on this forum have to SEARCH for things to like about it.

Think about it. Here is a simulation of a conversation by a Seagal fan that will blindly worship him no matter what.

Q Do you like the fact Seagal's voice is dubbed?
A. No.

QDo you like the fact that he is an acclaimed martial artist using stunt doubles for all of his fight scenes?
A. No

Q. Do you like the fact the storylines make little or no sense?
A. No.

Q. Isn't it terrible Seagal is out of shape?
A. No, he looks handsome that way. 54 year old man with guts and a ratty ponytail are considered the most attractive people on Earth
Q. Then what do you like?
A. The "costumes" (whatever the hell that means), the pretty girls, and the scenery.

Q. So what do you think of the film overall?
A. Steven Seagal is the best!

These people are not helping Seagal, but are hurting him by accepting his terrible behavior.

Hahahaha... this is awesome! How long before this thread is locked?!

I too think that Exit Wounds was his last decent movie, and even that was nothing compared to his earlier work. If a stunt double was used for the majority of the fights etc in Exit Wounds I can't say I noticed. His movies since, while not exactly being terrible per se, have not exactly set the screen alight either. I remember back in the old days of the official site - the excitement when Exit Wounds was released was incredible! I have seen no evidence of excitement that is anything like that which was generated when Exit Wounds hit the big screen? Why? Because we have grown used to mediocrity from Seagal. Everyone is secretly disappointed with his latest movies, but most are afraid to admit it. I don't like admitting that a guy who was once my idol has fallen from grace and is now mainly making instantly forgettable B movies. So, Exit Wounds was the last of his great movies for the following reasons:

Seagal looked good in this movie;
he drove a large, black truck;
he didn't look like he was sleepwalking through half of it;
there was no voice dubbing;
there was decent character development;
he had good, charismatic co-stars;
the budget was decent;
the story was relatively coherent;
it was directed well and nicely produced;
it looked as if a fair bit of care and effort had been put into making it;
the soundtrack (although rap is not really my thing), was pretty cool;
the action scenes were plentiful and brutal

Need I say more?

i'm not secretly disapointed with his recent films. If i don't enjoy a film i will say it. I hated Half Past Dead and Out of Reach but i enjoyed Exit Wounds, Foreigner, Out For A kill, Belly Of The Beast, Into The Sun, and Submerged. You guys make it like it's a crime for us to like his movies.

Its not a crime to like his movies - but alot of people refuse to admit that theres anthing wrong at all with this latest movies. Theres nothing wrong with pointing out poor aspects of Seagals movies - it doesnt make you any less a fan.

I agree 100%. The fact is that in Exit Wounds the film is so well made that you cant tell Seagal is doubled. In Belly Of The Beast and most recently Submereged i actually laughed out loud for 5 or so minutes at certain scenes where the action is supposedly performed by Seagal but its sooooo ovbious it isnt.

I don't think they did that good of a job hiding the double. It was VERY obvious to me!!!! I saw Exit Wounds in the theater and i cringed and was shocked everytime the double showed up. Exit Wounds was the first film that Seagal was extensively doubled that's why the article appeared in the paper that Seagal injured his knee. I thought this was a legitimate reason for being doubled but then when Half Past Dead came out and Seagal was doubled for 99% of the fights i realised that the injury was just a PR excuse. It doesn't matter whether Seagal's next movie has a budget of 100 million or 15 million he will continue to be doubled.

Wow, I hate to see Seagal like this. It actually makes me mad...For everyone who thinks "oh a few minutes late, no big deal," it's a big deal. You're late to a movie if you're not there a few hours EARLY! I dont get how Seagal will play hooky on a multi-million dollar project that requires such hard work and preperation. I was looking forward to these movies too...not anymore.

Since so many people insist on saying the same thing over and over and over--I guess it's my turn. ;) :D

I find it ironic that we have a separate sub-forum for a few girls who wanted to express their admiration for Steven, so they wouldn't "clutter up" posts. Yet anyone can---and does :D---say freely how much they dislike him and his movies wherever they want, as often as they want. Not just once or twice, and then move on. ohhhh noooo. :D No matter what the thread topic is any more. This thread was about a lawsuit and counter-lawsuit, yet that discussion stopped long ago. Now it's just another excuse to go on and on and on about his weight, his movies, voice dubbing, stunt doubles, etc., etc., etc. :rolleyes:

So, this is my statement: I like Steven Seagal. I enjoy his movies. I admire the work he does for charities. I like his music CD. I respect his relgious and ecological beliefs. :) I am not a "drooling woman in love", nor a "blind, fanatical fan". :D I am only, as so many like to say, "Merely expressing my opinion." ;) :D Yes, you all certainly have the right to speak your mind--and so do I. :D

This statement will repeat automatically. :D

Exactly - its a privaledge to have a job that pays so well and gives you such massive benefits such as being able to have fun while you work. However Seagal seems to complelety ignore this and if NuImage are correct - think its his right to have these benefits.

A few things about your post. Firstly - if we are allowed to praise Steven as much as we want on here over and over about the same thing, why cant we attack certain aspects of his films over and over? Secondly - the reason people keep raising the same issues - weight, poor recent movies, dubbing etc. is becasue they keep happeneing, he hasnt changed and so for every new movie that comes out these are the issues surrounding it. Its not as if he was fat and dubbed for one movie and people keep going on about it - its all his movies apart from Exit Wounds since The Patriot. Lastly - we dont dislike Seagal, i like his older movies, why else would i be on this board? However i am of the opinion that if fans keep sweeping these issues under the carpet then Steven will keep making the same poor quality movies. If he realises that the fans arnt pleased with what hes doing then he might wake up and realise he needs to put more effort into his movies - and his fitness, not just for the fans but for his long term health being so fat at 50+.

This is what im talking about - people seem to think that if they dont talk about these issues or ignore them the problems in Stevens recent movies will all of a sudden go away. Let me tell you this - at his age if in the next few years if he doesnt slim down - then im afraid to say hell suffer from serious health problems - possibly even a heart attack. Id like to see you all say he looks fine being how heavy he is then.

I and another member worked hard to give you girls that Forum :) That's how I became the most hated Fan here and he disappeared. I still take pride in it through :) It was his grandiose goodbye. Serena you are being a little bit immature repeating yourself. You are older than this. Do not lower yourself to the level of children.

This is not a behavior of a moderator. Which makes me question how some of you got these jobs in the first place. Moderators are suppose to be the voice of reason.

Moderators have their opinions too.

Well you took my words lighter than I thought. I wasn't trying to spark an argument I just merely thought it was immature. Sure state your opinion. Feel free to do it multiple times. But at least do not Copy Paste your posts. There is no way to justify that immaturity. Do what the rest of us do. Express the same message in different words. That's the key: Wording.

I am speechless. Being a Writer this should be an easy task for you. Writers strong point is being able to communicate the same message in various ways. Obviously you must be a different type of a writer. This site seriously needs to carefully pick the people in charge. There shouldn't be such cases of blatant repetitiveness just because you disagree with someone.
