It is a very strange date, since previously it had been listed as being 10-14th March. And also, notice, that it says "previous attendees" which doesn't necessarily mean expected attendees! Which is contrary to the announcement we had earlier!

Where did this announcement come from?

I'm not adding that until we get some info... so get busy, Suzi! :D

BOLLYWOOD AWARDS
It is with pleasure and pride that we announce the sixth international BOLLYWOOD AWARDS for Indian cinema. The BOLLYWOOD AWARDS of 2004, will be a gala event, like the OSCAR AWARDS, of international stature honoring the outstanding achievements of Indian moviemakers and artists during the prior year. Over the years, millions of Indians have made their homes outside India, yet each of them retains a warm and vibrant link with their motherland through the medium of movies. The BOLLYWOOD AWARDS will be a celebration of moviegoer's admiration for performances which shine above the rest. The nominees will be chosen by votes cast by non resident Indians.

The BOLLYWOOD AWARDS will be held on May 1st, 2004 at Mark G. Etess Arena, Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort, Atlantic City, New Jersey. Unparalleled and lavish resources will make BOLLYWOOD awards spectacular event. No effort will be spared to make this event both different and memorable. Live entertainment by leading stars of the Indian screen will be part of a stage show glowing with laser lights and pyrotechnics. Various celebrities from the Bollywood and Hollywood will attend this event. Apart from a live audience of 5,500 people the event will be telecast on India's national television network and several TV stations throughout the world.

Video cassettes/DVDs of the event will be distributed worldwide. The BOLLYWOOD awards function will have the largest gathering of Indian movie artists ever outside India, with stars, celebrities, playback singers, mimics, comedians, dancers etc attending the event. The BOLLYWOOD awards is a household name and would like you to be associated with it. The BOLLYWOOD awards will bring prestige, glamour, visibility, publicity, credibility, national and international coverage to Indian Cinema worldwide.

I see what the confusion is. The Bollywood AWARDS will be held May 1 in New Jersey; but the Bollywood International Film Festival will be held in India March 10-14, and it is the latter to which Steven is supposed to be going.

Problem solved! :D

I'll have to check the listings for the multi-cultural channels and see when the Indian news is on - they might have something about the film festival.

Actually, it was the Bollywood Movie Awards that Steven attended in the past, according to the articles, along with Michael Jackson, Richard Gere, Steven Seagal, Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber, Tyra Banks. Anyway, it's being held May 1st, and, as Justice has indicated, he will probably still be filming Into the Sun at that time. I wouldn't imagine he'd fly to Atlantic City in the middle of filming to attend these awards.

And after a pretty extensive search, I can't find anything on a "Bollywood International Film Festival" per se for this year. There's a Women's Film Festival in India the beginning of March, there's the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles April 14-18, there was a Mumbai International Film Festival February 3-9, but not the one specifically mentioned in the article Suzi found in November, as follows:

suziwong said:
A delegation of leading Hollywood stars, led by action hero Steven Seagal will visit India next March to attend 'Celebration of World Cinema', a week-long festival to help bring the Hollywood and Bollywood closer and promote international film trade in India. The festival, to be held in Hyderabad from March 10-14, as part of the International Film Festival and Trade of India, will be the first of its kind as it is initiated by Hollywood veterans.

After reviewing several different articles, including the following one, I get the distinct impression it never got off the ground.

"A major International Film Festival in Hyderabad is in the offing. This time it clubs promotion of Indian culture with cinema and trade, according to Dr. Arjun R.V. Daluvoy, a Los Angeles based NRI who is already well connected with the Hollywood film industry. The Festival not only promises to herald a new era of transfer of filmmaking technology to India from the US, it also helps brilliant Indian filmmakers to showcase their mettle to the “who’s who” of the international filmmakers.

With the objective of preservation and promotion of Indian culture through cinema medium, an international body namely International Film Festival and Trade of India (IFFTI) has been formed recently in Los Angeles. The body, a non-profit organization, wishes to bring in big names both in India and the USA together onto a common platform. Some of the Hollywood names include Steven Seagal, John Claude Van dam, Arnold Schwarzeneggar and many others.

Dr. Daluvoy, who has carved a niche for himself as a producer in Hollywood, has been in touch with legendary film personalities like Mr. Irvin Kirshner, the director of the STAR WARS and James Bond movies, Mr. Gordon Hessler, director, SINDAD, Mr. Ismail Merchant, widely known name in India and abroad.

Dr. Daluvoy disclosed that he is now in India giving shape to the project. He has been in touch with Mr. Yash Chopra, Ms. Hema Malini, Mr. Rama Naidu, the Guinness Record holder Mr. Ramoji Rao, Chairman, Ramoji Film Society, T. Subbirami Reddy, noted film personality associated with the Indian film industry and many others.

Slated to take place in February-March 2004, the Festival is unique in many ways. Dr. Daluvoy disclosed that a Film Festival Committee has been formed by a group of Hollywood and NRIs in the USA, London and many key figures from the Indian film industry. In a statement he said that the week long Film Festival will have grand gala opening and closing ceremony on a huge scale. The opening ceremony will draw towering personalities from not only film industry but business world too. The grand event will elevate Hyderabad in the world map, he hoped."

come get some
You know, this is turning out to be a great idea, TD! It's fun trying to see where he is at different times. :D

And I remember that Bollywood movie awards from a few years, I was actually watching it while flicking channels (it was on a subscription Indian channel we got), and I remember kicking myself for not having a tape ready at the time. It was only a half minute of speaking, he addressed the audience via monitor linkup (I guess he was back home or busy shooting somewhere else).
