"The Foreigner" becomes #78 on list of worst movies of all time

Right, LittleD!

The fight scenes in OFAK were much better! (I liked the story in OFAK more, but BOTB was directed better though...)

"it might have come off as a nifty little action/art film/film noir. However, in trying to be all of those things, it suffered for being none of those things adequately, because Oblowitz couldn't pull it off."

I agree with TD on that! :D

"fight scenes aside, which, for the most part - except for the monkey fu guy - are the only scenes worth watching"

What about that SUV chase at the beginning when they went through some mud :D

BOTB is supposed to be ridiculous: Its a satire of all his movies

LOL when you see stunt doubles fighting for Seagal and Seagal doing a 360 spin hook kick you know thats not hime. I thought that film was terrible and is in my top 3 worst Seagal movies list.

How can that film be better than ABOVE THE LAW, HARD TO KILL, OUT FOR JUSTICE? Those were classic Seagal films with Seagal himself doing the fighting.

Didnt you say "The Foreigner" was better than BOTB? That was nothing like a classic Seagal film. It had nothing that reminded me of any of those. BOTB reminded me of "Above the Law" (Seagal fighting on the streets), "Hard to Kill" (Revenge trying to find the kidnapper) "Out for Justice" (strip club scene and a tough guy Seagal) AND "Under Siege" (Men dressed like women((Gary Busey)))

"The Foreigner" had absolutely nothing in common with Seagal's classics. I think BOTB is more of a parody of all his films. He never could do that 360 degree spin kick, so it is kind of poking fun at himself. Other things too, Seagal poking fun at his weight problem (he checks the fridge at the beginning after breaking into that glass house) and many more that i listed in the old "BOTB: A new Discover Thread"

It was great because it was high in action like good old' Seagal, and didnt have bad directing or storyline.

(Here is that old thread with the parody references I was talking about)

Well, I didn't find it all that silly, but I see what you mean, it did have a comical flavor at times...

The list varies, I am sure Ticker will be on there again

Why didn't they choose Ticker instead??

Ticker IS on the list a at #75. It is higher because it is the top 100 worst movies of all time, #1 is the worst. The list changes all the time, but this is the first time I have seen one of his recent DTV movies there. Usually its poor theatrical releases (like "Gigli" which was on the list a few days back) or 80's movies that flopped ("Weekend at Bernies II") JCVD always has some of his later movies on the list, but up until today it has only been "On Deadly Ground" and "Ticker", nothing more recent than that.

Belly of the Beast

I really liked Belly of the Beast, it was far better than The Foreigner and Out For a Kill combined, two films which had so many bad things about them I can't even be bothered listing them anymore.

Belly of the Beast had great fights, great music, a decent AMERICAN cast, some good twists, a touch of voodoo, Oriental girls getting naked, a superb gun-fight, great camerawork and top-notch action scenes.

Out For a Kill had awful acting, even worse script, too many foreign cast members who can hardly speak english, extremely bad editing, poor blue screen, no logic, no flow to it, nothing except perhaps the sword-fight to redeem it.

The Foreigner had awful acting, even worse script, too many foreign cast members who can hardly speak english, extremely bad editing, no logic, no flow to it, nothing except perhaps the train station explosion to redeem it.

Belly of the Beast was so much better than both combined. Hopefully Out of Reach will live up to at least that film when I receive it in the next few days.

Serena

Likewise Serena, the possibility of it actually being true I think are pretty much nil. According to IMDB Under Siege 3 has been in production for about the last year, and Caligula is still according to them spelt 'Caligola'.

I still like OFAK more than BOTB...

BOTB was also edited poorly. The only thing I can give it is the better directing and ok gun fights (meaning they were well orchestrated and ran smoothly but it still looked too fake) ... other than that, sound was poor (I mean the sound effects - not the background music...) and nobody paid any attention to detail (NONE of it!)... I didn't like BOTB all that much, but I did get some entertainment out of it.

We rarely disagree on anything lately Yudansha but I still stick by my guns in liking Belly of the Beast a great deal more than Out For a Kill. I understand where you're coming from on the editing front but have to say I feel Out For a Kill was edited significantly worse. Several sentences abruptly cut off mid-way (particularly noticeable when Seagal is given his award and when he talks to his cell mate), there were so many continuity errors I lost count and most criminal of all, the edtors took it upon themselves to experiment with the edits as if they had just discovered Avid and were having a little play. The best was in the middle of a car chase when the chief villains face keeps appearing for no apparent reason and an explosion erupts from nowhere again for no fathomable reason. I loved all the action in Belly of the Beast too (the gunfight was amongst the best I've seen in recent years), all of the fights in Out For a Kill were flawed by either bad doubles, ridiculous wire-work and/or lack of any dramatic punch. Die Oblowitz diiiiiieeeeee!

When you see a stunt double fighting for Seagal and Seagal trying to be shown doing a jump 360 hook kick that just does it for me. In Out For A Kill there were so many great fight scenes Seagal even did a kotegaeshi and irimi-nage without wires something we have not scene in his recent films for a long time. I think because of the great fight scenes in Out For A Kill, that is the only reason it is better than Belly Of The Beast. In Belly Of The Beast the fight scenes were very boring, I don't want to see someone fighting for Seagal, if I wanted to see that I wouldn't buy a Seagal film.

Steven I understand what you mean though...

I think it was that sword fight that got to me in OFAK :D ... and that car chase wasn't all that bad ... but I gotta say, that part in BOTB when Seagal (or should I say his double) jumps on that rolling train cart and shoots was pretty cool ... actually, that whole scene was well shot (pun intended :D).

If you don't know, I'm a car guy (very much so) and I pay alot of attention to anything that has to do with automobiles in movies and COME ON! The Police was driving brand new Toyota Camrys! What was up with that? I'm sure the police departments there are very underfunded and wouldn't have money for one brand new car (Camry or not ... and that Hummer scene was funny ... cool but very fake)... BOTB was an entertaining film. I enjoyed it, my parents enjoyed it, my friends enjoyed it (although they all aren't big Seagal fans, they all at once at the end said that it was good but by far not his best effort :D ... LOL I remember some of them laughing when Seagal was shown having difficulty going up the stairs - they knew he could do much better)

Thanks Yudansha, couldn't agree more. The part where he jumps on the mine cart and shoots a row full of villains was one of my favourite scenes too. As you mention it could have done with a good car chase or a few explosions to top it off but hey that scene where the girl reveals the hidden message on her naked chest more than compensates :)
