The Greatest Fighter Alive Today!

I think you're both talking about the same thing.

"the system gradually expanded to encompass genuine colored belts, such as yellow and green, and ten Dan ranks"

That's what Rev.Dean has said. He said that coloured belts came in eventually, and not that they have originated the ranking system to differentiate the ranks.

Bushido, you said: "The true dan system doesn't have colors in it."

I think both of you are saying the same thing. The colours are used only to differentiate the rankings.

Rickson(age 46) is an awesome fighter but he is currently retired from fighting. Rumors abound about him coming back but they are rumors.

There have been many new fighters scince Rickson was fighting.

The current interm Heavy-weight champion in Pride is Rogerio Noguiera. The current UFC Heavy-weight Champ is Frank Mir, he just won this last weekend.

Frank Shamrock has a fight in the works with Cesar Gracie. It's been canceled once already but should be takin place in Colorado in August if they sign for the fight. Will be in ROTC if it happens.

Ken Shamrock had an exhibition fight with Kimo Leopoldo in last weekends UFC and Ken won by knockout.

I'm an avid MMA fan, Seagal fan and new to the board and look forward to reading over the site.

Hello everyone, I hope all is well. :)
Sorry it has taken me so long to reply but I don't have regular use of the net.
According to the Kodokan,
The Kyu-Dan system was developed for Kodokan Judo. Ju jitsu styles either had no rank at all, or rank systems identified by varying grades of teacher certification, roughly corresponding to "beginning teacher," "advanced teacher," and so forth. Kano, the modern educator, saw little organization or incentive for students to learn an organized curriculum of techniques, and little recognition of advanced students as teachers, or teachers as advanced students. Non-black belt grades, then, reflected a hierarchy of technical skills to the point where one might be considered to have mastered a sufficient foundation of Judo to be considered, finally, a true student of Judo: this was a first Dan, or black belt, rank. At first consisting of three white belt, three brown belt, and three black belt grades, the system gradually expanded to encompass genuine colored belts, such as yellow and green, and ten Dan ranks.

Jigoro Kano started studying jujitsu when he was 16 and by the time he was 22 he was a master of two jujitsu styles, Tenjin-Shinyo Ryu ju jitsu and Kito-ryu ju jitsu. It seems to me that is only 6 years to master two styles. I’ll admit he did practice a lot but he also worked a steady job and attended school which is the same obstacles students face today.

Respectfully,
Rev.Dean

I think it is possible for someone to master the skill set it takes to react reflexivley with the technique as well as the ability to remember them. Just depends on your effort. Art wise that is endless as stated above. The skill set does not take as long though in my opinion. Also some jiujitsu systems them had fewer techniques to learn than modern day systems.

Hello, TGR74. :) Welcome to the forum.
Nice to see you posting.

Now, since I know absolutely nothing about martial arts, aside from what I've seen in Steven Seagal movies, I'll step out now. :D

Enjoy!

ACtually what you said was FALSE. Rickson is not retired from fighting. My mom spoke with him on the phone the other day because I am flying all the way from Maryland to train with him in California for a week in the 3rd week in July she told me he is currently training for an event in Japan and he will be there unless he is injured or something else comes up so he is training for another fight expect it to be in Black Belt magazine very soon.

As I am watching the first UFC they made a comment after Royce Gracie defeated world boxing champion Art Jimmerson a police special tactics was next to Kathy Long and he said according to PD Studie's (Police Department) 95% of street fights end up on the ground. I am not talking about who is the fighter I am just saying in general I remember a comment saying where did I get the statistics thats where I got it from.
