Today You Die - Reviews

Storm

Smile dammit!
Sheesh lol. And you lot are fans?
We know he is getting old. I think he still delivers well under the circumstances.

Yes we are fans, and as such we have the right to give constructive criticism and demand a high standard from our hero.
Yes we know he is getting old, but he is not that old. Some of his fellow action stars who are of a similar age, have kept themselves in better shape and consequently this adds to their movies.
Under the circumstances I do not think Seagal performed well. A lot of the film was culled from other films, limiting the time that Seagal had to be on screen. Yet when he was he was barely audible and look bored and uninterested. His dialogue with his sidekick, some of which was apparently improv, is laughable and it is quite clear that in many of the fight scenes he is doubled. I agree it is hard to tell this though, simply because most of the film is shot IN THE DARK!

As I said before we are not haters. Neither are we fans who follow him blindly, thinking he can do no wrong.

Yeah I know what his IMDB page said. It says the only award he has ever won was a Razzie, and he was nominated for another 8. It also says the user rating for Today You Die (2005) is 3.9 and that Seagal's highest rated film is Under Siege (1992) with 6.19, which is still well below the IMDb average of 6.7

Don't tell me to go look at his IMDb page.

Just saw this for the first time. I'm pretty easy to please but this one was a disappointment. Seagal seems like he's having fun and has a few good lines, but after a promising beginning it gets somewhat dull (I'm talking once he gets to the prison). I'm still clueless about how the little blonde girl fits into the story, beyond being in a dream or two at the beginning.

I still recall this film even after all these years. Horrid doubles at the beginning of the film, horrible use of Randy Couture, it's a shame because back then I recall having such high hopes for the film. It had potential. They tried at least somewhat. There's truly nothing like a Lilliputian prison inmate telling Steven he wants to lick him in the prison scene. Very uh unique.

Is that the film where Seagal hides the armored truck? I never knew where he hid it..
as far as the little girl...wasn't she connected to the children's hospital going out of business soon that Sesagl donated the money to?

alot of those 'made in a week' films seemed to either have scenes missing or thye never were shot.

Hey J.Lucas,

I tried to check but probably got the same results as you. Only Dutch subs available. I watch a lot of films which require subtitles and gotten decent at procuring them but it seems like we are out of luck.

Thanks for your response...my DVD drive isn't setup at the moment, I used the power line for a SSD...otherwise I could probably get them from the DVD.
I just found the HD version subs at :
https://subscene.com/subtitles/out-for-a-kill

That's awesome. Hopefully, they are. I use that site all the time too, not sure why it didn't come up in my original google search results.
Yeah...they work fine(HD version)...I used Google too...usually film name and english subtitles shows me a site or two
haven't any idea why it's not working that way anymore...usually it points me to that site anyway but I had to manually go there.
I use this torrent site these days since many are down now
https://rarbg.to/torrents.php?search=steven+seagal
Out For A Kill was back a few pages after doing a search 'steven seagal' search...
you would think Attrition would be on the 1st page since it's the newest movie but it's not.
--
finished watching it and man...I actually enjoyed it more now than when it first came out...
Seagal puts more energy into the first fight with the 2 monks than he has in his last 10 movies...lol
--
Gonna do the same now with Today You Die...
--
When I originally watched these I was using a 720 PC monitor but nowadays I've been using a 40' 1280 so it's kind of nice to notice detail I never caught with the DVD version.

I think I am growing softer with age too. Look at my review for Today You Die. Geez, one line. If I watched it now, I would probably be way kinder. It still beats most of the output in the last 10 years.

And you are right, Out For A Kill actually had tons of fights. They weren't always filmed well, and the double was always there. Skinnier and quite obvious. But still, you stand correct; I bet there are at least 7-8 hand to hand fights versus what we get nowadays, and that's if Steven is even a lead character.

And thank you for the site and sub search tips. Appreciated. Torrenting is not the same anymore. I constantly miss the good ol' days. I even remember MSN Messenger fondly. Age.

P.S. Just re-watched Out For A Kill trailer. It honestly looks amazing. Was that a slow-motion shootout ala The Matrix? A real plane used? Actual locations not inside people's homes where Steven sits on a couch or chair talking? That spinning gun scene with red mist... wow Close-ups, and interesting angles. This was legitimately decent. I think I do recall a bit too heavy with slow-motion in fights, in every fight, but it does look slick.

I'm watching TYD right now...paused it....OFK was 2003...TYD was 2005...might have been his next...I don't know if Into The Sun came inbetween...
Yeah...the Matrix bullets in the beginning of OFK...I'd forgotten about that....I can't believe it's been 17 years since I watched it...
Yeah the slow mo was a bit overdone....well the whole movie is kind of goofy...that's why I like it...the 'monkey boy' fight ...lol
I think he only used a pistol twice in the movie...he says at the end that 10 guys died...all the guys around the table....
there must have been a few that he killed at the same time because I don't think there were 10 fights...I just know that movie has like a 5mt break in betwen the action scenes...supposedly it all took place in a weeks time...
I mean what he went from China to the US(where lived with his wife) back to some china town(US?) toBulgaria to France all in the same week,..lol

The little girl was at the children's hospital you're right, but why she needed special attention from Seagal is unclear. His wife told him it's her she's seen in her dreams? Why is she more special then the other kids? The girl unsurprisingly has grown up to to be a "hottie," busy actress too. Maybe Steve whispered "Come back and see me when you're a little older."

I guess the movie's missing scenes because of Steve turning up for 3 hours a day, as he was wont to do in that era (explains all the doubling too). Strange though, as he actually seems reasonably excited to be in it.

I don't think she was any more special than the others, she just happened to catch his attention when he first saw the 'going out of business' sign...I figured she was just the 'catalyst' for his upcoming situation.

I'd like to know how and where he hid the truck with the money....
that was never explained as far as my viewing, but then Seagal's DTV were never much on explaining.

I must admit, I didn't really think too hard about that mystery haha
