Tony Martin's Freedom-your opinions

Today being the landmark day when Tony Martin was freed from prison, what are your thoughts?Should he have been jailed in the first place?Should he have been freed earlier?

I personally think it was admirable of him not to feign remorse to get out early, because he was only defending his property and the raiders have only got themselves to blame for their seperate fates. And it was pretty reprehensible how that Fearon scumbag got out before Martin.I could understand how he'd be livid. But anyway,I'd welcome your honest thoughts and opinions on the matter.

In Peace and Love

Lotus, don't be embarrassed for asking. Lord knows I do enough of it myself. I'll try to summarize.

Tony Martin is a farmer in England who in 1999 shot two burglars in his home, killing one, a 16-year-old, and wounding the other, Brendan Fearon. Martin was originally scheduled to life in prison for murder, but through appeal the sentence was reduced to five years for manslaughter. Fearon, the burglar, served an 18 month sentence for a heroin charge, then was sentenced to 18 months for the burglary. Fearon was released early, actually just days before Tony Martin, the man he had burglarized. Tony Martin had been denied parole on several occasions because he wouldn't express remorse for killing the 16-year-old.

Hope this sums it for you okay.

oh, ok...Thanks so much Serena, for explaining...:)
Well, if they came into his home like that, then I can kind of understand him shooting to protect himself...
I am sure he was startled, and frightened...
That happened out here once...
If I remember correctly the jp shot at some teen, because they were on his property doing lord knows what...
I don't think he was ever charged but I think he did hit one of them as they were climbing the fence, not real sure...
Thing was that they were not in his house...
That was a big issue, I guess...
I think if Martin has served time for his crime, he should be granted parole by now...
I truly do sympathize with this 16 year old and his family, though...
Young kids know not what they do...
And boys, well they do get into trouble...
I have lots of male cousins and I have seen some wild things happen...

If you enter my house while im sleeping Im going to **** you up. They should give him a metal. Here in the states I dont think they would have given him any time in prison.

Actually in the states you have to be very careful what you do on your own property..even if the burglar is in your home you don't have the right to defend it. If someone gets hurt on your property they can sue you etc

Amos - you're so right. The parents of a patient I was working with were being sued by a thief who broke into their house while they were gone. Their dog bit him several times, one of the wounds got infected because he didn't see a doctor, and he ended up having surgery. Can you believe it? On top of having a seriously ill child to deal with, they had to contend with this. And they wonder why people take the law into their own hands sometimes. The last I heard the case was still in the system somewhere. I still think they need to go after these attorneys. No disrespect intended for lawyers in general, just ones who accept a case like this.

Serena;

Attornies only care about making a buck..not about right or wrong...

I heard somewhere that they say it's better to kill someone than to injure them.hee hee

Tony Martin should definatly have been released from prison far sooner than he was. The guy was only defending his property and I read that prior to the shooting, he had been burgled 30 times. Unbelievable, how he was treated with such contempt by the British justice system, when he was simply protecting himself and his home. It is especially a bitter pill to swallow when you consider that the other guy who he shot (a heroin dealing piece of sh*t!) was released from prison earlier and was also going to receive legal aid in order to sue Martin.

All in all I think Tony Martin did the right thing, and if anyone broke into my home I would definatly try and put up a fight if I could. I say he should be knighted for what he has done :)

Peace.

Agreed. If someone breaks in to your house you have no idea what they are doing. Thiefs, Rapest, and murders all do it. If your im my house im going to asume the worst. Would you go "Hey, are you her to take my **** or murder me? I need to know if I can attack you or not"

Smile dammit!
If one of them scumbags broke into my home they'd better come tooled up.What right do these lowlifes have to rob you and ,maybe beat you or worse? Tony should be given a medal. He is a hero to decent, law abiding members of the public. Our justice system is ****ed up when he can be sent down longer than the criminal! Basically, no-one is scared of the prisons here. They are like holiday camps compared to your high security facilities.
There was also a stink here from liberal MPs over Brit Taliban members held by the US. They made their bed of nails and should now lie in it!
