"Aikido must return to its roots." Shihan Steven Seagal

The idea of creating a competitive style, and with it the creation of the International Federation of Universal Aikido, was born at the end of the last century, when it became clear to many professional instructors that applied techniques were gradually leaving classical Aikido. And it began to intensify the principle: “Must be fun!”according to which, students should not practice budo, but play budo.

In the dojo, the speed of attacks and the strength of grapples have dropped dramatically. Aikido has transformed from a real martial art into a form of fitness with extremely low motivation. The slogan "Aikido must work on the street," proclaimed by Steven Seagal, has become inaccessible to many dojos. All these reasons forced the group of enthusiasts to draw unequivocal conclusions.:
1. It is necessary to return Aikido to its applied nature.
2. It is necessary to increase motivation.

It became clear that both could be achieved by introducing a sports component to Aikido. In 2018, everyone who attended the 1st International Universal Aikido Tournament, held as part of the Steven Seagal Budo Festival, heard the Grandmaster's message to the entire world of Aikido: "We must return to the roots!". For the initiative group to create the sport, this became a guide to action.

And today we have a new kind of sport - Universal Aikido, which is successfully developing under the leadership of the International Universal Aikido Federation, and which will undoubtedly contribute to the return Aikido to the roots of martial arts, since applied disciplines are as close as possible to real life.

The International Universal Aikido Federation is an independent public organization. The mission of the MFUA is to return to the origins of martial arts, training athletes in skills used for self–defense. Universal Aikido, which is a competitive system, is designed to restore the applied nature of techniques, increase motivation, and bring Aikido back on a par with recognized martial arts and martial arts.

At the moment, there are six sports disciplines in Universal Aikido, three applications and three demonstrations. Demonstration disciplines show the whole wide range of techniques, all the beauty, dynamics and entertainment of Aikido applied - the effectiveness of Aikido techniques in conditions as close to reality as possible.
Universal Aikido is gaining more and more popularity both in Russia and around the world. There are more Universal Aikido centers, more athletes are involved in this sport, and more tournaments are taking place.

We are confident that in a few years Universal Aikido will rightfully stand on a par with recognized martial arts.
The International Universal Aikido Federation is open to everyone!
Join, compete, hone your skills, and win! We are waiting for you at the Universal Aikido tournaments!!
Stay tuned for upcoming events !
