I had to do a little more checking on this guy, and was surprised to find I actually did know him. But more from a song he made in 1956 (I'm a huge oldies fan ) called "I Put a Spell On You".Lonewolf said:Hello !
Yes Indeed I was talking about Screamin' Jay Hawkins, the Voodoo Blues
Man!!!LOL!!
he was so funny, how sad he died so early!!!
The irony being that he died of ,well, of 'constipation' so to speak!
Peace!
He wasn't as young when he died as I thought, having been born in July of 1929 and dying in February of 2000.
And apparently he fancied himself quite the ladies man. I found this quote: "Hawkins left many children by many women. About 55 were known (or suspected) upon his death, and upon investigation, that number "soon became perhaps 75 offspring." I think this guy invented the word "groupies".
This was a highly recommended site, which had the following quote:
"12 February 2000: Screamin' Jay Hawkins dies in Neuilly-sur-Seine (France) near Paris at the age of 70. According to the Associated Press he underwent surgery earlier in the week to treat an aneurysm at the Ambroise Pave clinic and subsequently suffered multiple organ failure.
Hawkins was often quoted as saying, "When I go, I don't want to be buried. I've been in too many damn coffins already!"
