A nice little detail is in both the beginng & the scene where the girl brings him food at his hotelroom..you hear Steven breathing..as like if he is gathering energy..it is actually verry interesting cause this is an Tai Chi thing especially & since he does some Tai Chi in the movie it fits perfectly

I still think that some of the breathing is not his, or it was recorded and then put on the scenes.

I tried to give BOTB another try but I hate it. So many times you could tell there was a stunt double for Seagal in the fight scenes, just terrible.

I liked BOTB soooooooooooo much...
I did notice the breathing a few times, and was concerned about it
as we have mentioned before...
But it wasn't noticeable all of the time...
I heard somewhere that he had asthma as a child, maybe that's what we were hearing...
I am not sure anyone knows what it means, and hopefully it doesn't mean anything...
:(
I don't think such personal things are our business really, unless Sensei wants us to know...
We shouldn't speculate so non-chalantly about it...
LittleDragon how can you hate BOTB? :(
If anything I felt it was very touching, scenic, culturally interesting, and quite entertaining...

Thanks, Mason--I like your version the best, think it makes the most sense, and I'm sticking with that! :)

Breathing

It was mentioned here a while ago by someone concerned over The Master's health but rest assured it is merely sound effects - the same breathing noise is imposed over a different character at one point.

Well Seagal certainly looks like he has lost alot of weight from the 2003 Poland picture which is a good sign, maybe he did it for his movie to a possible return to the big screen.

I so wish we'd get some fresh news, but I refuse to discuss this here, it just doesn't seem like the right thing to do...
Plus it literally makes me sick to think that something could be wrong...
I guess it's obvious that even if, I'd want to deny that...
Like Amos said the last time, we really shouldn't be guessing...
I think though, that we should keep eachother in our thoughts and prayers,
that we may all be happy, healthy, safe and well...
I will be praying that Steven is just fine, until we hear some new news...
What do you mean post production, Jalu?
His supposed weight loss, or the addition of the sounds?
And folks, keep in mind those "new" photos are dated September, that is not very new....
That might well prove that we don't have an inside source here, but you never know, eh?
I have thought about it and had an idea that maybe we could contact some of the Aikido folks he knows and ask them what he's up to, but they would probably just ignore us...
This will make me crazy soon....:(

You're thinking about the August 2003 pictures. Check out the September 2003 pictures - if those were really taken in September, he's gained it all back and then some.... drat.

Doesn't look like it to me...
But then I do like him big...
And I'm not just attracted to
the outside of him, either...
The new photos look great...:)

Oh come on, when first mentioned all were concerned for health and now nothing ...

O.K. I'm not going to argue or anything, but as much as I would like to believe that version of hard breathing due to Tai Chi expression in the movie, I just cannot bring myself up to it. Every time the stairs had to be climed (more like two or three steps up) and every time he stepped off of a boat, you heard that hard breathing, and I really doubt that he was practicing his Tai Chi while walking a stair - and I don't think that such would be due to postproduction sound editing either (sound editing was done horribly overall in BOTB, and there was no original ideas or thinking present for anybody to come up with sounds for breathing patterns). You must know that the microphones are very sensitive (kind of like those emotional outbreaks running all over this forum) when such movies are shot, and they pick up your slightest movement (i.e. a sleeve rubbing against your skin). It doesn't matter what really happened or why, because we DID get a movie out of it ... but perhaps some scenes were shot early in the morning, and with Steven Seagal's schedule I think anybody would be tired and be breathing irregularly if told to do much activity without having sufficient rest (but then again ... Seagal is an accomplished martial artist of many years training ... so I say 'whatever ... I don't care as long as work is done' and I still have many issues with BOTB - very negative views which you've already read).

Oh Steven, how are you? :(

I'm sure he is okay, as long as he is still doing MA as it seems ;) ;) Tai Chi especially is verry good for your helth & is actually allso good if you have defficulty breathing ;) ;) I have a feeling that he is allso doing Chi Kung which is a Breathing excecise,in the construction site fight at one point he suddenly explodes in energy & kicks butt..like he (again) was gathering energy!

I thought the sound overall was very poor on BOTB, somehow it didn't seem to match the pictures properly and I wondered if the sound had been dubbed on afterwards. This is often done with low budget pictures. It would also explain why Steven was poorly dubbed; he may not have been available to record the sound himself, so it could be another actor. This is very common in places like Hong Kong, were sound is rarely recorded at the same time as the pictures because the actor's schedules are so busy.

If this is the case then the heavy breathing can be attributed to a lousy foley artist and nothing else. No need to worry about Steven's health.
