Filmtrailers, youtube and copyright

Hi guys, some trailers on the website of mine are sadly enough offline. They were on Youtube and the user removed it or it got removed by Youtube, I don't know. Then I thought putting the trailers myself on Youtube or wherever, but then thought about copyright etc, also mentioned by Youtube before uploading a movie. I don't want to get any lawsuits or so but would like to show the Seagal trailers on my website without getting in to trouble. What can I do ? On this site you guys also show videodownloads and such.... doesn't it give any problems as to copyright? I would love to ask the owner (publisher?) of the movie to use the trailer on my website, but since loads of Seagals movies are from different kind of publishers it seems quite a long undertaking.
Anyone any ideas?

hope to hear from you guys (I don't like the offline Youtube movies at this time......)

Turboman, the trailers are promotion for the movies. Therefore i think they are okay to distribute as they encourage people to pay for or watch the movie.

We have posted trailers here all along and so far no trouble from the authorities.

Very strange if they removed your trailers as there are thousands others online that have been viewed thousands of times.

Hi Craig, thanx for answering!

Well, believing and being sure are two seperate things ;o) It seems that it should be allright to upload the trailers to Youtube. One correction, i.e. making it more clear, I have to make: the Youtube trailers were from OTHER Youtube users. Hence, I can only assume why they where removed from Youtube. I can easily upload the trailers myself in order to be sure to not being suprised by a offline movie..... I really hate that.

Maybe somebody from the Justice Department here that would like to give some, free, input ?!

the safest and easiest way would be to link to the videos on imdb, you see each link after clicking on the movies you will find here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000219/videogallery

Wenn I click e.g. on the first link it then says:

This video is not available in your country.

Perhaps this only works in the PRO-imdb version?

well i am either registered nor pro member of imdb and it works fine for me

no idea sorry, but it seems that suzi (who lives in turkey) has also problems with some websites running videos

Some websites do not permit downloading by other than locals; for example, I wanted to watch videos of a British TV show, but was not granted access because I did not have a British IP. I imagine this is what is happening with IMDB (permitting only North American users to access their videos).

As for YouTube, now that it's owned by Google, they've gotten really stern with things like trailer uploads. I think if the one uploading the trailer is the distributor or someone with rights, it's okay, but if uploaded by Ordinary Folks Like Us it's a copyright violation.

Also, YouTube is censored/blocked by some European and Eastern Countries.

I've uploaded several videos on Youtube with a potential copyright issue.

So far I got only one (not for a seagal video) request from Youtube to either remove the clip or to allow adverts on the page of the video from the studio and partner affiliates.

In common there are no problems with posting seagal clips on youtube (there are plenty around).

I got a message from IMDB, I can use the link to the trailer but don't get the approval to use the video (by download, embed etc)..... A link I can always use.... if I didn't know that already.... duh
