Local Movie With Steven Seagal Gets '15-and-Over' Rating

sian10082004050220182500502c_1.jpg

An upcoming local film with Hollywood action star Steven Seagal will be reduced by eight minutes in an attempt for a lower rating.
``Clementine,’’ starring South Korean action star Lee Dong-jun, actress Kim Hye-ri and Seagal, received an ``18-and-over’’ rating last month from the media ratings board. The filmmakers then cut or rerecorded eight minutes of the film that the board found objectionable, which mostly had to do with crude and sexual language, and was able to get a ``15-and-over’’ rating last week.

The film was reduced to 100 minutes from 108 minutes and many scenes with comedian Kim Yong were taken out, according to Pulse Star, the company behind the film.

``Clementine’’ stars Lee as a martial arts expert who, after unfairly losing a taekwondo championship match to Seagal seven years ago, is forced to do so again after his daughter is kidnapped.

Damn

I'm really sorry to hear this, I was looking forward to some bone-crunching violence but it doesn't sound like there's going to be any left by the time they finish cutting it up.

Oh well, I think it's mainly language they are editing?

I hope it doesn't hurt the movies success...:(

Cuts

Well we all know what happened when Half Past Dead was trimmed to the level of a PG-13 rather than an R. It really didn't do the film or its box-office any favours. Most Seagal fans don't want films which are devoid of bad language or violence, the more cursing and bone-crunching there is the more hard-hitting his films become and that's what gives a lot of them their edge. It's no coincidence The Master's best films have been his most brutal ones and I don't think slicing up Clementine is going to benefit anyone to be honest.

Good point, but this isnt a seagal film. I think everyone is looking at this the wrong way. The star of the movie is not Steven Seagal, so it doesnt matter how much this movie does at the box office because things are different here than in Korea, and the movie maybe different than we think

Yes it is not a Seagal film. He is co-star or guest star. And this movie is local. Actually we don't know why did he play in this movie. May be he is trying some different alternates and may be he will change his style huh ???

That could be suzi. Or maybe he was just doing a friend a favor by being in this movie and making it more succesful because he is a big hollywood star. Who knows.

Fighting

Good points Reservoir, though Ticker wasn't really a Seagal movie either and one of the main criticisms everone comes out with is that it would have been a much better movie with the fighting and violence we've come to expect from Steven. The more fighting Seagal does in Clementine the better it will be and if they start reducing the hits they will be reducing his role. I just don't think cutting a film to get a lower rating is ever a good decision, it usually disjoints what the director was originally trying to put across and by doing it he's shooting himself in the foot.
