Weymouth Gig - 16/03/2007

Dear all,

Okay, I am going to do a very little report on the concert that took place at Weymouth Pavillions last night.

I arrived at the venue at around 6.30PM with 2 mates after driving from Taunton. The venue is not big and it was not busy then.

Had a coffee in the little bar :cook: and took our seats at around 7.25PM.

We were lucky as we were seating on the 1st row right in the middle so we had a very clear view and we were inches from the stage.

Super Chickan came on at 7.30 PM ish and did his thing and he was good.

Steven came on one hour later ISH with the super Thunderbox.
It was fantastic to see him live again certainly when I was seating in the 1st row.

What really annoyed me what the flipping audience in Weymouth !
I mean, you look and read Steven Seagal's program notes.
He says that Blues Music should be played to a willing audience !

It was not the case in Weymouth !
I mean, before the gig, I told my mates...
'Look around guys, they will have to be on TOP FORM to move that lot tonight'!
No disrespect to anyone here, but the seats at the front were taken by numb people and the audience was like a bunch of undertakers !

My mates and I were up on our feet as much as we could without trying to disturbe the old geezers at the back who just came to witness a Mozart concert I think.
We were clapping, moving along the great music from Steven and the Thunderbox !

I have never seen such a bunch of dull muppets in an audience of any blues-rock concerts in my life and this was the first time and I felt sorry for Steven Seagal and the band in some way.
At times, everybody was on their feet in the audience as the backing singers TOLD US to do so, and I turned round to see ...lamp posts everywhere :D !!!!

Don't get me wrong, they were super professional and did the gig as good as they could and I thought they were brilliant!
Steven Seagal was on top form and talked a lot to the audience.
I felt he did more talking in Weymouth than Bristol.

Having been to 2 of his gigs I could see the huge difference !
In Bristol, the people were on their feet going ballistic and the atmosphere was electric...Period.
The audience was willing !
In Weymouth , forget it !

I really enjoyed the gig and I wish he played longer.
He slightly played less than the Britol gig and they didn't do the encore !
Wild Thing was not played and Steven Seagal left the stage saying 'Thank You' .

I wasn't surprised they did not play Wild Thing...
I mean, come on...
They would have had to rename the song Mild Thing !
Thanks but no thanks hey?

Also, remember when I told you that the audience of maybe 400 people were quiet and static yeah?

1 minute before the gig start, the maybe theatre manager decided to shout his head off on the microphone and told us.

NO FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY, RECORDING, BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA...PERSONS BEING FOUND TAKING PICTURES OR RECORDING THE CONCERT WILL BE REMOVED AND DEPORTED TO A DISTANT PLANET AWAY FROM HUMAN LIFE, THE CAMERAS TAKEN AND HE WENT ON AND ON !!!! BLA BLA BLA !
Like Super Chickan would say...
-SHOUT THAT THING !:gun:

This put a huge cold in the room and this wasn't needed.
What a bloody bunch of idiots!

I mean, from being cold, the audience became frozen and I felt this was totally stupid as they weren't that many people in the first place.

It was just the way they did it !

I took my chance at one point and took 2 pictures of Steven singing WITHOUT FLASH and this woman came racing on my left side saying
- Excuse me , no flash photography please !
I replied
- What? did you see a flash here?
She said
- No I didn't but no photography.
I replied
- This is not what you've said...You said no flash photography so please go and don't ruin my evening

Then she went...

But I did not take any more pictures as I didn't want to make a fuss + cause havoc in sleepy Weymouth and let it ruin my evening completely as they were silly and jumping on everybody with a camera.

In bristol, this was not a problem, the atmosphere was electric and hot, people were taking pictures etc...

So what was the big deal in Weymouth?!
Phew...what a lot of nonsense.

I still really enjoyed the gig and it was great watching Steven Seagal again as he is a hero for me.
Steven Seagal ( movies + music)and Jean Michel Jarre(music) + Zinedine Zidane(football) are the 3 people I have been following for the last 15 years and had a good positive influence in my life.
I respect so much SS,JMJ and ZZ because they are so good at what they do in their professional careers but also because of what they do in real life...helping people, helping children, helping wildlife, raising good money for fantastic charities, helping to make the world a better place etc...
3 legends !!!!!!

Dear, after the gig we were told that Steven will not meet people and sign anything and I was so gutted !
He just wanted to get out of Weymouth as soon as possible !
His driver told me that he was going straight to London so that was probably a reason why he decided to leave early.

Never the less, I never give up, and did wait outside with the 2 mates and another 10 people or so in the freezing cold ( the venue is on the pier and it was so windy and cold) .

I managed to get my program signed by all the members of Thunderbox except Che .

When Steven came out , he was around 20 metres from us getting into his car I shouted

- Hey Steven, I went to few of your gigs, please a small signature please

I had to say it twice and Steven made a nice gesture to me saying 'one minute'.

I think everybody wanted him to get out of here but Steven was great .
He jumped into his Renault Espace ,they moved the car towards us, the door was wide open and he was just in the front of me...
A couple of Scottish blokes working for him were being absolute maniacs outside the car pushing people around and trying to be world beaters at only 4'5 :gun: , but I was okay as I was the first one there to speak and see Steven so I said

- Thank you Sir for taking the time signing my program
He replied
- No problem
I then said to him
- The Bristol gig was much better hey Sir?
He didn't replied but looked at me and laughed . ( he understood what I meant)
I then said...
-Thank you again Sir and see you soon
He replied
- Merci ( with a big smile).

I was well thrilled...:D
I finally met My favourite movie star and it was well worth the wait !
Steven is a clever man, he even worked out I was French just by saying a couple of things to him and I was very happy that he aknowledge me in French by saying Merci !

I will treasure this signed program for many years to come :)

He also probably recognise my voice when I called him for the autograph because during the concert, after one of the songs, after people finish clapping, there was a dead moment when Steven was putting on an other guitar for the next song, so being in the first row I shouted...

-HEY GINO ! WHERE IS RITCHIE ?!!!!:D

My mates were laughing their heads off and Steven also as he looked at me and laughed also.

Stupid, but I had to do it !!!!!
And maybe , this helped me to meet him after the gig as they were ready to go !

Can't wait for the next gig in few years time !!!
Won't be in Weymouth ;)

Guys and girls, I got only few pictures to share with you.
I am sorry, these are the only pictures I have got as we were not allowed to take any so I did my best to get these.

Take care and much love and energy to you all,
:apeace:

Hi GlimmerMan,

Thanks for your kind reply buddy...

You know my friend...I am just direct and speak my mind .

Overall, I enjoyed it, and it was great 'meeting' the Master after the gig !

I would have kicked myself if not, knowing he stayed behind in Bristol but had to go for personal reasons.

I really hope he'll release another album in the next couple of years and do a tour like this one again...

The man and his band are just awesome live !

Take care buddy and have a great Sunday !

Cheers,

Gui
