Bad News: Poor Rental Sales for OOR

Hehe. No, it is good to be optimistic. but "Sweetchinmusic" really got me worried. I had no idea it was THAT terrible, but now that I think about it, rental sales must have been less than a few $100,000 otherwise it would have made the list.

Yes. If you can believe IMDB. Even SweetChinMusic said that didn't seem to be very accurate. And I also found it very strange that in all of Googledom, only IMDB had such stats. Everyone else had the figures for the week prior.

Anyway, glad you took this the way it's intended. :) Not really a blind worshipper, just trying to balance out some of the negative stuff. :D

What other sites usually have that info. BOTB was listed on imdb, so I know they don't discount DTV movies or anything on that list.

HomeVideo, Mercury News, Zap2it, The Daily Camera, Video Business Online are just a few of the ones Google comes up with, but as of now all of them only have figures through July 11th. Billboard has some figures through July 27th, but only the top 10. Don't know the "whys" for any of that. Was just curious as to how IMDB was the only one with those stats.

It's a shame we don't see TV ads, Why, why, why?

The answer is actually verry simple..Tvads is only for Theatrical films not for dtv but it would deffenetly improve if it made it on the tvads!!!!!!!!

Something as simple as putting a poster up in a DVD store would bring more attention to the film. The tv ads do come on, but they make them sound like they are MADE for TV, which is not a selling point, on the USA Network. Anyway, it's not a surprise there is not any marketing, look at the official site, it doesnt even list "Out of Reach". If there is a fan who doesn't come to this site, and just discovered the official one, how would they even know it has been released?

Yea You and me come from 2 different contrys, and tv, ads for dtv dosnt come out here! But if the do in USA I would say that it is one of the strongest weapon of a movie to show an,add and an trailer! I agree with you on the official site, but in this case it is, the work of a sloppy webmaster!:rolleyes: The old official site was informable enough!!

Definitely! I've never seen a poster in any of the big video stores here. And Never saw even a mention in those little pamphlets they have available listing what's out now and which movies are due out. The most I've seen here is a hand-written sign indicating which movies are new that week.

Still, Belly of the Beast was consistently rented out in two of the largest video stores here for months, each one having about 20 copies, as I reported earlier in the year. You had to reserve a copy and be called when it became available. Haven't checked out how Out of Reach is doing yet here.

True, I never see posters either, a real shame...
I'd like to grab them if I could, and searched for the release in the pamphlets at blockbuster, saw nothing...
To be honest, I got scared that the movie wouldn't be released on the set date...
I was so glad to see it when I went to find it...

All the movies make at least top 100 mark?

"In Hell" was a very good DTV! After watching it, I thought that it would've done well in the theatres, but Van Damme's other DTVs just plainly sucked. Did Legionnaire (which wasn't all that bad, but was a historic movie, and there was not a big audience to watch a film on a historic event featuring some dried up action star at that time) or Derailed make the top 100? I highly doubt that.

Like Steven said, the main reason that The Foreigner did so well at the beginning was because it was Seagal's first (... I'm not counting Ticker, as Seagal didn't have too big of a part in it ... or so I've heard...) DTV and after the success of Exit Wounds, many expected it to be very good, because come on, it was Steven Seagal in it! Surprise, surprise... Anyways, when I heard first about The Foreigner, I thought it had a good story behind it, and the trailer looked quite decent (but then after you watch the movie, you realize that the majorite of the good parts were already shown in the trailer...). OFAK didn't do as well since people got familiar with Oblowitz and wanted nothing to do with him. So, those looking for action movies (those who are not necessarily Steven Seagal fans) did not bother with OFAK. I bet if (and this is a big IF) Belly Of The Beast was just as good with Oblowitz directing it, the sales would be even lower just because there was the "O" guy associated with it.

I haven't seen OOR yet so I can't say anything about it, except that it's a DTV and I don't expect it to be a high seller.

At this point, Into The Sun looks like it might be going 'back to the classics' with Seagal, but who knows...

More Evidence to prove this one is NOT selling well

If you go over to "videodetective", they have lists of the top 10 viewed trailers in each genre people are watching. I don't think I am the only one that remembers this, but when BOTB came out, it was on the list of action movies for MONTHS (it came out before it was released, and did not disappear for quite a long time after)

To date, OOR has never appeared on the list. I think this is a case of lack of publicity(trailer being released late) and negative reviews. There is no disputing the fact that this is not a good thing.

I am sure "Into the Sun" will be good. But don't forget, if this one was not well received, and the next one is "Submerged" (cringe) "Into the Sun" probably wont have as strong a following based on disappoint with the DTV movies.

There has been a steady decline in his films, and frankly BOTB technically was terrible. If I were not on this site, and therefore, one of a minority group of people who have a special interest in him, I certainly would not buy or even rent this latest offering. Who wants to waste time with a poorly made dubbed very short movie when there are so many good titles out there. OOR, I suspect will be hard to come back from, Hollywood is cruel, there are already sniggers about his locations, and it won't be long before he will collect a cruel title like Mr Dubb dubb Seagal - they certainly won't allow him to get away with passing off poor quality movies, he has far too many enemies for that.

Sad, but true. I think everything rides on "into the sun". If that goes wrong, well, then for the rest of his career, I am sure we will see a decline in his films.

I know they carry it, Amos, it is probably out of stock (hopefully)

I am very proud of Steven, personally...I can't imagine why anyone would be bothered by the dubbing in Belly or TF really, it was pretty mild...However, OOR was noticeable, yet it was a nice film, he was very compassionate in it and I really liked that so much...

TheGreatOne
Mild???

It was not mild in Belly of the Beast! All of those scenes with Steven Seagal and the monks at the temple would be so much better if Steven Seagal just spoke for himself.

Just because it wasn't dubbed as much, doesnt mean it did not hurt the presentation of the film. Seagal really didnt put much effort into "Belly of the Beast". He hadnt lost weight yet, and was moving quite slowly. Stunt doubles did the best fight sequences, and it was really hard to swallow that Seagal still didnt take hits.

OOR on the other hand was a much better quality film. The budget was better spent. If there was no dubbing, it probably would have been his best film in quite sometime.

TheGreatOne
The best fighting by the doubles?

I wouldn't call that wired fighting 'the best' ... Seagal's sword fights were much better.
