Bad News: Poor Rental Sales for OOR

Just because it wasn't dubbed as much, doesnt mean it did not hurt the presentation of the film. Seagal really didnt put much effort into "Belly of the Beast". He hadnt lost weight yet, and was moving quite slowly. Stunt doubles did the best fight sequences, and it was really hard to swallow that Seagal still didnt take hits.

OOR on the other hand was a much better quality film. The budget was better spent. If there was no dubbing, it probably would have been his best film in quite sometime.
I couldn't have said that better myself. I agree 100 percent. He looked much better in this movie, no sign of any stund double, the only thing in my opinion that hurt OOR was the dubbing. But I'm sure many disagree.

Belly is one of my favorites, it's very special, and I like it a lot...I agree I'd rather see all Seagal all the time, but I was still happy with the film...The dubbing was not so obvious as it was in OOR...And he was wonderful in them both, it's the parts that aren't him that are a little lackluster, but I guess there are some reasons for using the dubs and doubles, that guy doubling for him on the stairs in OOR was such a puny guy, not a good double at all, Steven is so much more majestic and handsome in his stature, it's hard to find one that will pass, but the BOTB and HPD doubles were a close match in body size...

Who cares if he hadn't lost weight, I happen to like the weight fine...I happen to like him anytime, and at any weight...

I wouldn't call that wired fighting 'the best' ... Seagal's sword fights were much better.

The swordfights are cool, but they are played out. He has done them in his last THREE movies. I shudder to think this is because he cant do any of his own hand-to-hand combat scenes anymore...

I love to see him with the sword, he's really a master from the looks of it, just soooooo awesome...
And let me say that fighting with those things cannot be easy, they look SO heavy....

uhhhh, did you see him fighting in Clementine, OMG, he was unbelievable...

Someone said the fighting in Clementine was a double. I am not too interested in that film because he is barely in it. Anyway, "Into the sun" sounds like it is going back to basics.

Definitely! I've never seen a poster in any of the big video stores here. And Never saw even a mention in those little pamphlets they have available listing what's out now and which movies are due out. The most I've seen here is a hand-written sign indicating which movies are new that week.

Still, Belly of the Beast was consistently rented out in two of the largest video stores here for months, each one having about 20 copies, as I reported earlier in the year. You had to reserve a copy and be called when it became available. Haven't checked out how Out of Reach is doing yet here.

Ofcourse I knew when OOR was coming out but Family Video did have the movie in their pamphlets. They have had all of Steven's movies in them.

"In Hell" was a very good DTV! After watching it, I thought that it would've done well in the theatres, but Van Damme's other DTVs just plainly sucked. Did Legionnaire (which wasn't all that bad, but was a historic movie, and there was not a big audience to watch a film on a historic event featuring some dried up action star at that time) or Derailed make the top 100? I highly doubt that.

Like Steven said, the main reason that The Foreigner did so well at the beginning was because it was Seagal's first (... I'm not counting Ticker, as Seagal didn't have too big of a part in it ... or so I've heard...) DTV and after the success of Exit Wounds, many expected it to be very good, because come on, it was Steven Seagal in it! Surprise, surprise... Anyways, when I heard first about The Foreigner, I thought it had a good story behind it, and the trailer looked quite decent (but then after you watch the movie, you realize that the majorite of the good parts were already shown in the trailer...). OFAK didn't do as well since people got familiar with Oblowitz and wanted nothing to do with him. So, those looking for action movies (those who are not necessarily Steven Seagal fans) did not bother with OFAK. I bet if (and this is a big IF) Belly Of The Beast was just as good with Oblowitz directing it, the sales would be even lower just because there was the "O" guy associated with it.

I haven't seen OOR yet so I can't say anything about it, except that it's a DTV and I don't expect it to be a high seller.

At this point, Into The Sun looks like it might be going 'back to the classics' with Seagal, but who knows...

I have to disagree I thought Replicant was also great. And Desert Heat and The Order were passable. Anyway Derailed (which was crap) didnt make the top 50, but all of his others did. they all spent around 3 months each in the top 50.

I still dont understand how OOR didnt make the list, I mean what advertising did BOTB have? It still made the list, what advertising do Lundgren films have? They always make the list.

Its hard to believe that like 1/8 of the people who rented BOTB wouldnt rent OOR. But I guess the people renting these moive are internet people (how else would they know about the film) and all the bad reviews hurt it.

What part did you disagree on?

Belly of the Beast had a trailer much before it was released. We got a trailer for OOR only about a week before its release. That's no way to promote anything. Also, remember this: OOR hasn't been released everywhere yet. The U.S. is where most of the numbers, about how well OOR is doing, are coming from ... and IMDB is not a reliable source of information as has been said...

I think his movies probably do quite well in europe...Being filmed in Poland I am sure he has lots of fans there, too...And we know he's big in France, Germany, Spain (most likely) and the U.K. as well...I hope it does well, I found the story (and especially him, of course) very charming...I don't understand how they could wait so long to release the trailer...Also, has anyone noticed that one picture in the gallery of him in the sleeveless burgundy shirt shows him with a shotgun, and it's nowhere in the film?
Do you all think they did lots of editing or something? As it was a bit of a short film
in my opinion...

Another thing to consider about "OOR"

There are very few reviews for it up at IMDB as well as user ratings compared to that of BOTB.

hmmm, I guess perhaps I will give one soon...
Who else will?
I'd gladly do anything to help Steven...:)

Well I am not surprised, it was better than Belly Of The Beast and had good fight scenes but the film overall was just not doing it for me.
