Belly Of The Beast

This is Steven Seagal's latest motion picture. This movie is released on region 1 dvd on 31st December 2003 and region 2 dvd on 16th February 2003. This thread contains important information on the release.

Budget: $14 million

Location: Bangkok, Thailand

Plot: Ex-CIA Agent JAKE HOPPER has run a successful private security business since leaving the agency when his wife died, leaving him alone with daughter, JESSICA.

While hiking in Thailand, Jessica and her friend SARAH are kidnapped by an organization that calls itself the ABU KARAF. Sarah is a US Senator's daughter. For ransom the Abu Karaf demand the release of 20 prisoners from American custody. The US Secretary of State urges restraint - he won't negotiate. An ex-colleague of Jake's recognizes Jessica on the ransom tape and tips him off. Jake knows he must rescue the girls himself.

An old CIA buddy puts Jake in contact with 'LEON WASHINGTON' an active CIA agent working in Thailand. Jake goes to Bangkok and escapes an assassination attempt by unknown forces. Leon arranges a meeting with SOKU Ð the internal security chief for JANTAPAN. Jantapan is an eccentric and scary character, a rebel military general that is making a play to be one of the most powerful men in Thailand. Secretly Jantapan is messing with some dangerous spiritual forces.

Soku provides Jake with a cover story, but the CIA wants Jake out of it - they are planning to take out the Abu Karaf with the aid of the Thai army and don't want a civilian in the middle.

Jake is a spiritual man so he contacts his spiritual master PAITOON. As Jake is in trouble, Paitoon offers to arrange a divination from the oracle of the order.

Jake enlists the help of his old friend and partner SUNTI. Together they con LULU, the girlfriend of WU an arms dealer, to steal information leading to the Abu Karaf. Jake & Sunti follow the leads to a warehouse where they discover evidence of highly sophisticated weaponry. With the dangerous drug dealer Wu now after Lulu, Jake takes her under his wing.

Jake shares some of his info with Leon - still testing the waters. Can he trust the CIA agent? Another attempt is made on Jake's life - this time Jake is sure that Leon was involved. Finally, the Abu Karaf contact Jake to arrange a meeting - the pieces are coming together.

Jake gets his reading from the old oracle. The cryptic message confirm his fears - evil and demonic spiritual forces are working against him. Jantapan tries to send the spirit of an ancient warrior demon to kill Jake but the ceremony goes wrong and the spirit enters Jantapan himself giving him amazing physical and spiritual powers.

Jake and Sunti go to meet the leader of the Abu Karaf SUNGRIT - he confirms what Jake suspects - since 9/11 Jantapan has worked to corner the narcotics and arms market. It was Jantapan who kidnapped the girls, blaming the Abu Karaf so the army would wipe out his competition. Sungrit knows where the girls are and gives Jake plans and intelligence. They both need the girls alive. With more betrayal and action on the horizon, Jake must engage in a battle that will put both his physical and spiritual powers to the ultimate test as he takes on the demon Jantapan in a wild battle that can only end in death.

Yes kat, BOTB was a great movie and yes seeing him in the love scene was the best. Now all we have to do is wait until the next movie which I do hope is in the theater, and not straight to video.

Just remember, though, Katrina, that most of the fighting in BOTB was done by stuntmen, not Steven.

Lotus,a little while ago I had a post for you in the Movies section,in the Belly Of The Beast review thread which it seems to me you haven't even read...but I've copied it from there and I'm gonna put it here
for you once again and please don't take it as an offense.
"Lotus, you still can't accept any critics towards Seagal. That's too bad.I suggest you take it easy for one can't be loved by everyone and one can't be loved by everyone in the same way. However,a bit of criticism will never spoil the man but the lack of it will.Even in Seagal's own philosophy, when
one is learning to do something he should never be praised,he should restrain himself from that for there should always be a desire to make things better."

I did read it Tora, but I feel that maybe it is those closest to him that can and should give him that advice, not people he doesn't (or if he's reading) barely knows...
Fact is we don't know him personally...
And it's my feeling that he's quite sensitive, and gets enough criticism from the press as it is...
I don't ever want to hurt him, I would be broken hearted if I knew that I did...
Besides, I see it a totally different way, I like to look at the positives in him and to me there are so many...
I don't see what things need such an improvement, if you ask me, if I did
I am sure I might say something...
Also I know there are reasons, motivations and results to everything...
I try to be understanding, did you see the 12 petaled lotus post I made?
It says that I am gifted with understanding...
Maybe...
He's just a human man...As he once said, "When cut he bleeds like everyone else." Criticism without understanding and compassion can cut deeply, it can scar someone very badly...
I as a rule try to always practice compassion, it is my way...
This is just the way I am...
Besides fault itself is all in the opinion and eye of the beholder, IMHO...
Maybe I don't see what you see, and vice versa, so you can't say that my way or my opinion of SS is wrong, because it is right for me...
It's what I see with my eyes, no-one knows my feeling or thought but me...
Of course, I would be glad to give him a bit of advice if I was his lady, it would be my pleasure...
I would want to help him, because I love him...
But I have never been one to be harsh, sometimes I try to be tough try to change because others think it's best, but for me it's a real chore, and I always slip back into my own skin, I am what I am...Not an outspoken girl at all...
And unfortunately I can't take those being harsh with me...
Perhaps that is the biggest reason why I am not that way with others...
I know how I would feel if the shoe was on my foot...
I'd never be a bitching and complaining one with him, even if I was his girl,
I see women who do that and I think it's disgusting...
They treat their husbands like a dog, there is no respect, and I tell myself that they as a couple won't last...
He is a human being, there must be a mutual respect between two people...
Of course as his other half, if I was ever that, I would be glad to give him ideas, opinions, and advice...
I would let him lean on me, and I would want the same thing...
But lovingly, gently, and respectfully...
Perhaps you feel the love I have for him might be a blind love to some here, but what I see is simply a wonderful man, who I believe tries very hard to entertain us, and he's someone who is always doing things for those that are less fortunate...
I know his life can't be easy...
And after all he is just a man, I do know that...
I will try to see it from your point of view, though...
But I still don't feel it is my place...
Maybe I do praise too much, but it makes me so happy to do it, maybe he reads it and smiles, that would make me so happy...
Maybe he really doesn't mind...
Take care my friend, you know I am not one for a big debate...:)

Are you ok, kat?
Is that sarcasm from sweet Kat? omg...
Also, TD and Kat, is there anything wrong with enjoying Steven for the parts he did?
That after all, is his main objective in making the film isn't it?
Entertainment, and enjoyment...:)
Just because he uses a double in the movie, doesn't make him any less facinating to me...
If we try to pick it apart too much and it ruins the whole effect they are trying to so hard to achieve, just my opinion...
Even I could tell it was a double, but mainly only by the hairstyle...
As suzi said they were very good doubles...
You girls are sounding as cerebral as the men here...
Maybe we are here wayyyyyyy too much...

ooh, I'm sooo sorry kat, that was very rude of me...
I didn't mean it that way either, you know I would never do that...:)
You are always such a sweetie, that's all..
I just REALLY don't like those particular "smileys"
if you can even call them that, eep...

And honestly, the thought of your surgery and my comment
had nothing to do with eachother, whatsoever, please forgive
me if I made you feel bad in any way at all...
If so, I am sooooo sorry...:)
I am glad you're back...

No, no, Katrina! Not sarcastic at all. I know what you mean! I probably wouldn't have noticed the stunt doubles (at least, not the first time through) if the seed hadn't already been planted to be on the lookout for them.

I wish I could have liked BOTB more, but there was so little of Steven doing much of anything except sitting in the movie (and not even saying his own lines about half the time!), I just found it hard to watch.
